Dear all,

Day 1 of the party has been a great success: 170 comments on 2 pages so far. As agreed, I hereby kick off the second day, so that we won't lose everything like last year, should LJ crash our party again.

Threads of interest can still be commented on, but I ask you to start any new threads here from now on

And now: on with the party!!!

First topic of the day

Since the food topic did go a bit under all the others on Day 1, perhaps we can resurrect it here. Let's talk about favourites. What do you like, what was the best you've created yourself or eaten by somebody else. Which cuisines do you prefer?

I don't know about the best thing I ever made, I know what is a general crowd pleaser at my house when it's made - Enchiladas, Pork chops with Fideo & beans on the side, Chile Verde, Lasagna, Roast Chicken.

Birthday presents, hobbit-style

As we all know, Hobbits give presents on their own birthdays to their guests. So, take a look at my Interests list, and if you can find a fandom we share and have a particular wish, I'll write you a story (most likely very short ficlet) before October 9.

Name your gift!

I like a number of Italian (or Italian-American) dishes: lasagna, pizza, all sorts of filled pastas, pesto. Happily, the Beloved has just made a half-dozen jars of pesto from a bumper crop ["a very big harvest" for you non-native speakers] of basil he grew in our small front garden bed this year. We'll be eating it on pasta, on bread, on homemade pizza (one of my specialties) and, to be honest, occasionally straight from the jars, over the winter. Mmmm...

Sorry, no cooking advices, recipies and other food-preparing comments from me. According to my daughters, I'm a lousy cook. As for myself, cooking is just one step above a necessary evil. But occasionally, I try my hand at something more elaborate when I have guests. It is almost always edible.

New topic: Reimagined fims/series

Now, since we had so much fun with tearing the Hobbit film to pieces (gently, only gently, of course), let's discuss some sci-fi. Or rather how a new generation of directors/showrunners likes to turn an old classic upside down and inside out.

My personal grievances are:

The films The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Andromeda Strain, as well as the series Battlestar Galactica and Kirk-era Star Trek. And no, I don't even consider "Enterprise" part of Star Trek at all, sorry.

So, what are your battle scars in this area? (If it isn't sci-fi, tell us anyway!)

But now Outlook is down as well, and that was the other place where I stored my stuff - is someone out to get me, seriously?!

More picspam, just because I'm pissed with the internet in general, having completely failed to insert a pic about the chocolate festival from url. My own pics are on my laptop, sent to my Outlook account, which, of course, is down at the moment, so I can't upload them to the Scrapbook (which is a painfully slow process anyway), so something else will have to do.

Image

Yeah, it's me, looking down from the cloister of Moissac. Oh, and have I mentioned that when LJ transferred my pic from the old Scrapbook to the new one it ate more than half of them?

So, how do I make it work through Firefox again?

Plus, Mum was on TV through them. They filmed here while sampling the naked bonbons, and my colleagues all greated me on the next day with "Was that your Mum on TV?" *g*
