I've just realised that I've hardly posted anything else but update alerts since we came back from our holidays - which is mosty because I was having fun with the delightful ladies of [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo. It was an intense 2-months-session for me, as you could see from all the update alerts.

But there were other things happening, too, and now that I've actually survived the annual carpet washing insanity (which includes the complete emptying of various cupboards, so that they can be moved from their allotted places) I finally have both the time and the energy to pay attention to other things.

Be warned: this is going to be an ungodly long post, as I don't want to write several entries. You'll get it all in one, intimidating heap, assuming you want to read it. Hence the tags. *g*

Starting with the Classic!Who wishlist )

Could anyone help me getting my hands on the DVD of the 4-part-serial "The Terror of the Zygons"? Yes, I know it exists online, but my aged PC can't really handle it, and watching moving pictures on a computer screen kills my eyes. Besides, I'd really need the English subtitles, dumb foreigner as I am.

I can offer in exchange Hungarian chocolate, hand-stitched cards, CDs with Hungarian music, if you're interested in that sort of thing, plus my eternal gratitude. No, I don't have PayPal, and monetary actions online are way beyond my abilities, sorry. I was clearly born half a century too early.

Because I haven't updated these for at least 3 years, and in the meantime many things that were on the old lists have found their way into my possession. *g*

So, let's start with some old stuff I'm still looking for. There were, for starters, the:
Star Trek background books

Still looking for the following outdated books, too:

Visual media - which, basically, means DVDs in these days. Gotta get the stuff as long as it's available. Don't have the money to switch to BluRay.

Sci-fi classics - because you simply can't beat them )

From classic sci-fi TV, I'm still looking for the original V-The Visitors series. I wasn't terribly impressed by the new version (what little I saw from it), and besides, that one pops up in supermarkets on sale sometimes. And I still haven't found anything beyond Season 1 of Earth - Final Conflict in Region 2 format. Grrrrr!

Horror series )

So, wishlist has grown considerably again, and that still without the extended edition of the first Hobbit film (which will hopefully be available in Hungary), the 3rd season of Sherlock, coming somewhen in the next year, and the second Hobbit film. Also, I still have to list up the books of the DS9 relaunch series that I already have to see which ones I still happen to lack. So, yeah. Long list. But it has been 3 years, right?

I managed to hunt down "The Shogun" and "Attila the Hun" of BBC's "Warriors" series. I also found "The Tale of a Knight" on sale, although I haven't checked yet whether it starts on my DVD-player or not. I haven't had any problems with DVDs bought on sale yet, but one can never be suspicious enough. Hah!

"A Tale of a Knight" isn't such a big deal movie-wise, and I'm not all that impressed by the late Heath Ledger anyway. But it has Rufus Sewell, him of the dreamy eyes, and that decided it. Yeah, I'm that shallow.

I also managed to buy some small Christmas presents for my online friends. I know it's a bit early, but when you have to send them to the overseas, early is a good thing.

Havent done that for a while, which is mostly because [livejournal.com profile] altariel and [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris, lovely and generous ladies as they are, have spoiled me so rotten that I had to catch up with the stuff they gifted upon me before the greed hit again. ;)

But you know me and my book-case of doom that extends into the fifth dimension to make room for more stuff (actually, by throwing out videotapes of series I bought on DVD in the meantime, but that's another matter entirely; what counts is the fact that I have some space to fill up again).

So, let's get started with the books.
It's a random selection of various interests, without any practicular order.

So, I think I've got my shopping list for the next decade or so. *g* Now if I could only visit Vienna a bit more frequently...

Well - I had my Grand Spoilage Day(TM) today. Courtesy of the most generous [livejournal.com profile] altariel, I just got a whole library of original Star Trek novels. Check out the titles in bold font in this entry and be amazed.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] altariel, you are officially one of the best! *hugs* *bounces some more*

I'll have to roam Amazon a little now for a proper wishlist update, which would be more along the line of the newer series, I think. Plus some SGA or Andromeda stuff. Strangely enough, I don't feel the urge to have Stargate SG-1 novels. I'm perfectly happy with the first 8 seasons of the series. I don't even read fanfic in that branch of the fandom... well, not much and not often anyway.

Still looking for the Star Trek background books, though. I know there are online sources for writing fanfic, but my eyes are old-fashioned that way... *g*

In other words - an update of my wishlists. Which keep growing longer and longer, no matter how much more stuff I have gathered/been gifted upon.

And that's it for today. I'm fairly certain that more will follow as the greed grows. ;)

Sooo... I've just read through this post, to see how we're doing on the acquiring front, and I must say, it's not bad.

Yes, I know I'm a hopeless nerd. But my fandoms are what makes me forget the unpleasantries of Real Life - and it's still a lot cheapter than psychotherapy. *g*

Oh, and by the way: I started watching "Red Dwarf" today - also courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris. I was laughing so hard that tears were falling from my eyes. Usually I'm not fond of comedy series with that artificial background laughter, but not even that could spoil my fun. Last time I laughed so much was when Mum and I were watching "On the Bus". I was about ten or twelve at that time.

So, I got a package of the size of, oh, the Lonely Mountain from the wonderful and generous [livejournal.com profile] lhun_dweller. Since Hungarian postal service doesn't deliver anything bigger than a matchbox to anyone's house, I had to go to the post office and fetch it.

Well, at least they hadn't thrown the alert notice into someone else's post box, which is a positive development, I guess. Poor [livejournal.com profile] ithilwen and [livejournal.com profile] archet had both gotten back their lovely prezzies because of postal service idiocy a few years ago and had to re-send it. Yeah, we do live here under a rock when it comes to service... how have you guessed?

BTW, does anyone have an idea what this new pingback feature is supposed to be and whether we should turn it off???

Below is a list of VHS tapes or DVDs that I Absolutely Have to Get (TM). As you'll probably realize, sci-fi plays a major rule among them. As always, the ones I already own are in bold.

Of course, owning Start Trek as a whole on DVD would be cool, too, but since I have bought everything but the last half season of Voyager on VHS, it wouldn't be very realistic. And no, I don't even consider Enterprise as a part of Star Trek, thank you very much.

All right, this is still only the stuff I want most at the moment. Later additions are possible, of course, as my greed knows no limits. *g*
wiseheart: (Federation)
Well, this is something that's gonna be really long. It'll take up maybe more entries. But it will help me to keep track on my new (or planned) achievements, as I'll simply turn the title of the ones I manage to get hold of into bold font - and admire my success afterwards. *g*

Yes, I'm a strange, strange person. Hitting the half-century mark doesn't help with that, of course, but then I was strange as an adolescent already, so I probably can't blame my age, eh?

So, let's start with the good old sci-fi stuff, shall we?

As I re-read this entry, I got a little bit schocked how greedy I am. And I haven't even gone any further than general Star Trek background trivia and some Original series novels. Well, at least I know why I'll be working at least ten more years. The bucks for this dark passion must be earned somehow. *g*
