So, since I promised to post other things than just update alerts, I was trying to think of something of interest and came to this topic.

In any case, those are my favourite authors on FF.Net. Feel free to share yours if you like.

I've added several The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings crossovers to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak, my reading recommendation page. Most of them are vaguely - or not so vaguely - AU, and all of them are ungodly long, but I think they're worth the effort nonetheless. The authors are trying to stay as close to canon as possible for AUs to still work, the characterization is good, and there's lot of adventure, so... Have fun!

Behind the tag, you can find a short essay (sort of) about what baffles me most in the unlikely and ungrounded slash pairings I sometimes come across while reading fanfiction. Don't look if you're easily insulted on behalf of your OTP.

Which is what makes the Sherlock section on FF.Net such a hard place to find anything worth reading. So, here I'm giving you a few author names that won't disappoint you if you want to read really good stories:
senvenpercent
chappysmom
stillwaters1
And that's basically it, since [livejournal.com profile] saki101 doesn't post to FF.Net. All other authors are to be approached with care. You can get nasty surprises when you expect them the least.

I've added two more recommendations to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. Both are Torchwood-related, and the Firefly crossover is particularly interesting. Enjoy!

I've added a few new recs to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak, my reading recommendation page. FF.Net really makes it easy for me with its Share function, and it's a good way to keep track on favourites anyway.

The new additions are a Merlin modern AU, an old favourite from the LotR fandom, a Torchwood AU and a very funny Blakes7 fic from the July session of [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo.

Have fun, I certainly did.

Added some more stuff to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak: two Torchwood fics and some that I found via [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo. Enjoy!

It was long overdue, so I've finally updated [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak, my fanfic recommendation page.

Oh, and when we're already talking about updates: "Tales of Halabor 05" has just been posted to all the usual places. Dedicated to all the fans of the manly Men of Gondor.

Updates

I've posted the next chapter of "The Joy Machine" to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. I also added three more story recs to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak - one Voyager story and two DS9/Voyager crossovers.

The Protective!Chakotay archive seems to be gone, as well as the Prydain Guide and Gila's Cave. It's fortunate that I've mangaged to save my favourite stories to my HD, but it's a crying shame for the Prydain Guide. It was an excellent website, with a great encyclopedia - which I never came around to save. Now I won't be able to do so.

I've added recs to my absolute Original Galactica favourites to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. I apologize by the fans of the new show, but there were no recs for that one on the list.

I won't go into detail how much I was offended by the so-called "reimagined" show - those who know me know it already. There will be no divine intervention or unexpected miracle that could change my opinion about it, so let's not argue about the topic.

However, for those who'd like what great stories the original has inspired during the last 25 or so years, now can look them up at [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. Currently, all the links given there are working, I've checked every single one.

Oh, and by the way, I've acquired the entire original show on DVD a few months ago and re-watched it. Let me tell you: despite the occasional silly episode (and which show doesn't have those), it's still captivating.

I wish to God Richard Hatch had gotten the okay for his vision, The Second Coming! That would have been a worthy continuation of the original, with the Cylons finally showed according to Glen A. Larson's original idea (reptiles in armour rather than clumsy robots) and a lot of other things. But we weren't that lucky. I still grieve for the series that never was.

More recs

I've added quite a few new recs to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. Among them a handful of LOTR ones as well. I'm still way behind the ungodly amount of stories I like in my countless fandoms, but getting there slowly.

Remember, adult fic recs (and really good ones, if I may say so myself) are friends-locked, so you need to join the com if you want to see them.

I've added a couple of new recommendations to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. So far I have 23 recs in 11 different fandoms. It's great fun to hunt down again my old favourites - stories that I've saved to my hard drive - so that I can link them to the rec site.

Unfortunately, M'Ress - A Star Trek Novel by Paul S. Gibbs is not available anywhere on the 'Net anymore. I do have a copy, but I can't make it accessible to other people. :(

I've been wondering for quite some time what the hell I should do with the [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak community, since none of our former students seemed to be interested in it. Okay, I used it to experiment with various LJ-styles, but honestly, that's not reason enough to keep an otherwise useless community.

But today, the inner light bulb finally got on: I'll turn it into a reading recommendation site. I read (and even write) in so many fandoms, and sometimes I find wonderful pieces that I'd love to share with other people but never had the right forum for it. Now I have.

From now on, the place is called "Soledad's Recommendations", but I'm ready and willing to share it with your guys. If you have a good story that you'd like to point out to others, go on, post a rec to the community.

Current story count: 4 Stargate - Atlantis stories (two of them friends-locked), 2 Brother Cadfael stories, 1 Houston Knights series (friends-locked), 1 Silmarillion rec ([livejournal.com profile] ithilwen's Maedhros series), 3 Space: Above and Beyond stories and 4 13th Warrior stories, the last one of them friends-locked because of its explicit content.

I'm qute happy with the whole idea. Finally, I'll have all my favourites in one place and easily accessible. Go me!
