I've been wondering for quite some time what the hell I should do with the [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak community, since none of our former students seemed to be interested in it. Okay, I used it to experiment with various LJ-styles, but honestly, that's not reason enough to keep an otherwise useless community.

But today, the inner light bulb finally got on: I'll turn it into a reading recommendation site. I read (and even write) in so many fandoms, and sometimes I find wonderful pieces that I'd love to share with other people but never had the right forum for it. Now I have.

From now on, the place is called "Soledad's Recommendations", but I'm ready and willing to share it with your guys. If you have a good story that you'd like to point out to others, go on, post a rec to the community.

Current story count: 4 Stargate - Atlantis stories (two of them friends-locked), 2 Brother Cadfael stories, 1 Houston Knights series (friends-locked), 1 Silmarillion rec ([livejournal.com profile] ithilwen's Maedhros series), 3 Space: Above and Beyond stories and 4 13th Warrior stories, the last one of them friends-locked because of its explicit content.

I'm qute happy with the whole idea. Finally, I'll have all my favourites in one place and easily accessible. Go me!

Fun is a good thing to have. I've already posted some Atlantis recs, now I'm going to hunt down some Brother Cadfael fics, just to offer a wider variety of reading material, hehehe.

Considering that I should be busy writing my teaching plans for the next school year, I'm pretty content wasting my time with fun stuff, eh?

Eh, the teaching plans can wait! Brother Cadfael is much more fun, I love those books! Cadfael is such a real and sweet tough old monk, and he understands people so well. I guess that is what makes him such a brilliant detective!

Yes, it's a wonderful series. I only lack one of the 20+ novels yet, but have high hopes to get it one day. [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 has hunted down two others for me that I lacked just recently. *g*

Aside from the medieval mystery and the historic parts of it, for me, as a former member of a convent that was based on Benedictine spirituality, the books are a very special delight tor ead.

Yes, they would be for you. You'd get depths from them I can only glimpse. The books are very hard to get here, I've read about 9, and have 3 ex library books, which appear to be the only source.

I might get doubles, as I've ordered them repeatedly. Do you want the extra copies sent to you?

Yes please, but only if you will accept payment!

Well, no doubles have arrived just yet - although they will, I'm sure of that. You can pay in "writer's currency", when they are here. :))

I'm positive. If they arrive, I'll have the choice to bring them to a second-hand bookshop, which will pay practically nothing for them, or to make a friend happy - it's really not so hard to choose, now is it? :))

*nods* If the situation were reversed, I'd choose to make the friend happy too...so thanks very much in advance!

Excellent idea! I had kept that group despite the inactivity, in case I ever got good enough in Magyar to take part. Now I don't have to wait!

That's highly unlikely, considering that so far I've been the only one who actually used the community for anything. ;))
