The first part of my Primeval/Torchwood/Sherlock crossover story has been posted to ff.net and to AO3. Read wherever you prefer and no deed to hold back with the mindless praise. ;))

Summary: What if someone else was calling the shots behind S4 of "Primeval"? Someone powerful and ruthless enough to deal with even Philip Burton?

This story is basically an AU version of Series 4 and 5 of Primeval, as well as of the late Series 2 and 3 of Torchwood. I don’t even consider COE as a true part of Torchwood anyway, save for Ianto’s sister and her family, who were cool. So, this is a version where Tosh and Owen are still alive but the Rift has closed – temporarily - after the end of Series 2 and the team is out of half their jobs.

I've been re-watching Primeval to get my facts and the mood right for my so far untitled crossover fic (the same that's posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib), and I've also been reading a great deal of Primeval fanfic on AO3. Most of it is hardly worth reading, to be honest, but there are a few excellent stories, so the time isn't entirely wasted.

All right, I admit the whole issue isn't really important, but I needed to blow off some steam before I'd have to return to work tomorrow. More about that unpleasant topic later - if I manage to rant about it without getting a brain aneourysm.

PRIMEVAL WEBISODE #5 – JESS & BECKER
TRANSCRIPT BY SOLEDAD

Notes from your friendly transcriber:
This transcript (and the previous ones) most likely has a lot of mistakes. I tried to interpret wherever the actors were mumbling, but let’s face it, I’m not a native speaker, and the automatically generated subtitles on YouTube are more a hindrance than any help. Sometimes I even had a hard time to figure out who was speaking!

So, if anyone finds really stupid mistakes, please tell me, so that I can correct them.

So, this was the last part. Some nice missed inside info from Becker, some tantalizing hints from Matt in the "red herring" department.

A few comments:
This is the best summary of James Lester I've ever heard.
I presume Gideon and Matt are talking about Philip, but some of it really doesn't make sense.
It's also unclear why Matt would want to have security out of their uniforms - it's a stupid idea, really, and as we can see in the series, he couldn't push it through.

A few comments to his one:
It seems that Jess and Becker have great chemistry from the beginning, despite the fact that she's supposedly 19 so he's about twice her age.
The Gideon thing is the biggest red herring in the history of episodic television.
I like it that we're told that Philip Burton is a Nobel Prize winner, certified genius, not just some megalomaniac. It makes him more interesting.

Due to my recent Primeval marathon, I hunted down the webisodes preceding Series 4 on the Web and transcribed them. I'm going to post the transcriptions here because I think they're very helpful in understanding what happened in Series 4 and 5.

Here we go with # 1 )

I think I know now what's triggered all that Lester/Becker fic, because otherwise I really don't see it.

Aka: A new story was really the last thing I needed.

Yesterday I indulged in a Primeval marathon, watching half of Series 4 in one go. Mostly because I wanted to see whether the German distributors were really idiotic enough to bring out Series 5 as the 2nd part of Series 4 before I would start hunting down Series 5. It turns out, they were. Why they did it is beyond me, but at least I can rest assured that I really have the entire series.

And then I sat down and typed up the 3-page-start of a new Primeval/Torchwood/Sherlock crossover, in which Mycroft Holmes is James Lester's superior, Tosh and Owen are still alive, Matt Anderson (the last team leader of Primeval) is a Time Agent, like Jack Harkness, and Ianto goes undercover within the ARC to find out what Philip Burton (Alexander Siddig's character) is up to.

There is a bit more to it, like the Rift having temporarily closed up, Andy Dadvidson and Mickey Smith being hired as field agents and Gwen being pregnant, but these are the basic settings. This morning I worked out a rough plot, decided which canon events from Primeval can be kept and which ones have to be changed and how the TW3 gang (well, Jack, Ianto and Tosh) can fit in with the ARC without blowing their cover.

Yes, I'm officially insane, I know.
