Using the backup
Feb. 13th, 2011 01:18 pmSo, I've created this InsaneJournal account waaay back, during the second big LJ crisis, I think. (During the first one, I've created a Greatest Journal account, but that seems to have gone down a black hole - anybody has an idea what happened to GJ?)
Here it is.
Anyway, I've decided to use the IJ account for something, you know, useful, since I like it. In some aspets, it's esier to deal with than with LJ itself, even though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. So I've decided to post stories there, as a backup place for my writing journals. Finished stories, mostly, but not exclusively. As it's not a community, I'll be able to change the date on the entries afterwards, so that chapters belonging to the same story would actually be posted together, instead of being scattered all over the place.
Currently, there are a couple of stories to several different fandoms, but I'm working slowly towards copy&paste-ing all the finished ones. There is no need to hurry, after all.

As some of you might remember, I've done an awful lot of research for my Ninth Doctor/Tosh story, Travellers' Tales, which can be found on FF.Net and
otherworlds_lib. *hint, hint*
Tis particular episode takes place in 12th century Japan, of which I've never known a thing before - well, save from a short mentioning in Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series at the Battle of Dan-no-ura.
Anyway, I was doing the sort of internet research when you start with one keyword on Google and then walk from link to link in Wikipedia. What I found was very interesting - in many ways, but I only want to talk about the so-called in-canon writing.

GAFF is gone, forever
Mar. 22nd, 2009 06:40 pmI don't know whether I should grieve or celebrate. Once upon a time, it used be a fairly funny, snarky forum, but in the last three years or so... utter tripe. So, it's perhaps better that the Site Guru put it out of its misery.
At least it has given me the acquaintance of
eye_of_a_cat, so the years spent occasionally visiting it weren't utterly wasted.
At least it has given me the acquaintance of
Fanfic meme
Jan. 12th, 2009 08:33 pmI saw this on the journal of the lovely
lethe_loyd who offers me the most interesting memes to do. I still dont quite understand how it actually works, but I've simply copy&pasted it below; perhaps others are smarter than I am. *g*
the old.
as a fanfiction writer, have you ever wondered what your 'winning' fic or your most well-loved fanfic is? this meme is for fanficcers who want to know which of their works are others' favorites as well as for readers who want to show more appreciation to the fanficcers.
the new.
it's a new year, and if you're anything like me, you've written more and more fic since the last time this meme was around. so we're gonna do it all over again, and see if your best fic according to others has changed any. this is also a chance for the new writers to see if they've got any favorites among fandom, as well. :)))
rules.
• List the fandoms you write for.
Well, let me see: Tolkien, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voy), B5, Stargate: Atlantis, Andromeda, Queer As Folk US, Kindred: The Embraced (x-ed over with several other vampire shows, including Angel, Buffy, Poltergeist, etc), Brother Cadfael - have I forgotten anything? If I count the x-overs individually, I come to about a dozen fandoms.
• people will tell you what is their favorite fic/s by you (links appreciated); they can also leave other positive messages.
• since this is an appreciation meme, please do not start wank. (and by please, I mean I'll delete that sh*t pronto. - original quote, so don't shoot me for it, okay?)
So that's it. Feel free to comment.

Lost fandoms
Aug. 13th, 2008 10:55 pmSo, which are the fandoms you've given up on because the creators took a turn you could not agree with?
Mine are:
- Angel, starting around the end of Season 2, when Joss brought in that stupid demon universe storyline. I stopped watching the show somewhere mid-season 3.
- Buffy, after Season 5, although I was seriously tempted to give up on it as soon as at the beginning of Season 4, when Buffy suddenly became an idiot. The last straw for me was the appearance of Dawn. I forced myself to watch the show to its bitter end, but honestly, I regretted having done so.
Andromeda, after mid-season 2, when Gold Trance came into the picture and Kevin Sorbo turned the show into Hercules in Space. I kept watching till the end of Season 4, but it just got worse and wordse. I never bothered with Season 5.
SG - Atlantis, after the Season 3 episode "Sateda". I liked that one. I bought Season 3 on DVD, but I seriously doubt that I would even bother to watch Season 4 and whatever might yet come on German TV.
Stargate SG-1. Stopped watching after Season 8, when O'Neill left and the annoying new guy entered the picture. The whole thing stopped being a slightly self-ironic sci-fi show and turned into some sort of stupid science fantasy. Oh, and I do hate Vala Mal Doran.
Earth: Final Conflict, after they killed off Boone, to get in the young Marty Stu, castrated Da'an and made Zo'or a stupid and incompetent villain. Watched sporadically till the end of Season 4, though, then stopped.
Queer As Folk, at the moment when Brian hit Michael, just because Michael said something "mean" about that annoying little slut, Justin. As if a piece of blond boy a§§ would be more important than a deep friendship of 14 years. Again, I watched the show to the bitter end and was shocked by the increasing badness of it.
Enterprise. I gave the show a chance, just because it was Star Trek. I gave up somewhere during the very first season. I even deleted the recorded episodes from the videotapes, it was so very bad.
These are just the fandoms in which I've invested much time and energy, and in which I also write. I've given up many, many more. *g*
