I don't know whether I should grieve or celebrate. Once upon a time, it used be a fairly funny, snarky forum, but in the last three years or so... utter tripe. So, it's perhaps better that the Site Guru put it out of its misery.

At least it has given me the acquaintance of [livejournal.com profile] eye_of_a_cat, so the years spent occasionally visiting it weren't utterly wasted.

I completely missed the opportunity to check it out, because when I finally got on the site, the forums were out of order and would not accept new subscribers, and afterwards I kind of lost it out of my sight. So, I only ever heard about it.

Maybe it is for the better. But the new place to snark at stories seem to be some selected communities at live journal, anyway.

BTW, HUGS to you! Long time no see (which is my fault, I fear, as I have been rarely on here lately).

You didn't lose much. Most of the time, the board members were bitching about each other's posts and insulting each other. IMO, GAFF was best during its InvisionFree period. And I liked Vanessa's ersatz board before it got (falsely) reported by one of its own members. The most intelligent discussions surely took place there.

I belonged to it almost from the beginning when it was a small thing with only a few hundred members and a couple of dozen regular posters. I went back about a year or so ago after being gone for a couple of years and I couldn't find any of the old names I was used to chatting with so I figured it was done for me forever at that point.

It's sad to see it go...it was so much better when it was a core group of posters instead of the massive and sad thing is grew into.

I started visiting it when it was still on the old Voyagerboards. As I said, I liked it best during the InvisionFree period. But you're right. The old members were all gone, and there was no more honest snark, just self-important bitching.

Hard to believe it's gone. For a while, it was such an internet staple. Why did the Site Guru decide to shut it down?

I have no idea. There were lots of technical problems because of the trolls overflooding the site with their idiocy - which was the reason why, in the latest period, you needed to register to get onto the site to beging with - but perhaps he just got fed up with all the petty bickering.

There was barely any honest snark there anymore, just the board members fighting each other. In any case, the official GAFF LJ (comm) doesn't give any particular reason, just that it's over for good.

Boy, I've fallen really out of touch - I didn't even know there WAS an official LJ GAFF community. Sounds like the infighting on the board was probably the reason the Site manager decided to shut things down.

Well, there's not much happening on the conn. It only served the Site Guru to inform the members about board updates and such. But yeah, I think he simply got disgusted with the whole bitch-fighting and decided to have a life instead. *g*
