aka the entry meant for today.

My birthday was quiet, as expected in these days... a bit more quiet than I thought it would be, but I guess I must realize that other people (the ones who have to work) are snowed in over their heads. Ah, well.

In any case, I got eight lovely phone calls (two from Mum's friends, but they still count, right?), two e-mails and two text messages.

As for birthday gifts, I got lovely, lovely reviews for my stories from [livejournal.com profile] elwenlj, [livejournal.com profile] jenn_calaelen, [livejournal.com profile] adafrog and [livejournal.com profile] sandysan2013! Yay! Thank you, folks, you've really made my day!

I also got paid LJ time from [livejournal.com profile] elmey and [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland, and also a very cute birthday e-card from the most generous [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland. And a small bottle of black currant flavoured vodka from my friend Alex, which I'll get on Tuesday, when I go to school to fetch the eggsies.

A mysterious birthday gift from [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris is currently waiting at the post office, as they ceased to deliver anything that can't be stuffed into the letter box a couple of years ago. So yeah, I'll have to take the tram to the post office, which is always crowded like whoa, stand in the queue and wait until they find my package. So much about social distancing. *sigh*

Mum gave me the baking tin for mini bunt cakes in advance, but she was unhappy with the fact that she couldn't give me anything now and pressured me to find myself something when I was doing the shopping on the 9th. So I bought a DIY box set that is pretty, but I wouldn't have bought it otherwise, as I didn't strictly need it.

It looks like this while still unopened (well, almost, as I got the pink version):

And this is what you can make from it:

In theory anyway. I might use the individual parts differently. But it is very pretty.

So, this was my birthday in 2020. I'll update this entry when I've fetched my package. Friends-locked, because it is no-one's business, except you who are on my friendslist.

So, my friends, it's time for us to party! You are welcome to the virtual cookies and to the Hobbit-style birthday gifts. Five of you asked for a story, and here is the list to find them:

Halloween for [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland

I Didn't Know for [livejournal.com profile] red_day_dawning

It's Her Birthday for [livejournal.com profile] adafrog

Better than Mushrooms for [livejournal.com profile] chocolate_frapp

Fond Memories of a Barrel-rider for [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat

Have fun, my friends, and don't forget to review! *g*

Oh, and here is a selection of cakes until I can post a photo of the actual birthday cake, which hasn't been cut yet. Virtual calories are for the win!

And for those who prefer some salty goodness, here are little buns and spicy pastries:

Enjoy!

And - last but not least - today's coffee table with the chessboard cake:

Hi everyone!

As you already know, tomorrow is my birthday and I've decided to throw a virtual birthday party again. The pre-scheduled birthday entry will go online at 7.15 tomorrow (CET), with virtual cakes and links to the birthday fics some of you requested. As always, the main goal of the party is to generate as many collapsing threads of comments as we can, until Sunday midnight. We'll see how far we get this year. ;))

Since this is a Hobbit-style birthday party, I'll be the one handing out gifts (=the stories) to my guests. Should anyone feel the irresistible urge to gift something upon the birthday hag nonetheless, paid LJ time is always appreciated, so that this journal can continue on ad-free.

On a different matter, I've tried to charge Mum's new/old phone today. Apparently, I've managed to push some wrong button in the process because now it refuses to accept the PIN code and is only willing to make SOS calls. I really don't know what to do with the dratted thing. I'll have to go back to the Telecom shop next week - not exactly something I'd be looking forward to. *sigh*

Finished Chapter 18B of "The Toreador Chronicles". With all the double parts, I'm up to Part 26 so far. Posted it to FF.Net and [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms, to the latter complete with a poll about Michael's fate. Don't know whether the poll actually works or not, as there are only comment-votes so far. I hope it does. This is my first poll on LJ.

Finished Part 6 of [livejournal.com profile] jastaelf's birthday story. The Forgotten Relams/LotR x-over one. Haven't typed it up yet, though. That will have to wait till Thursday, I think.

Also finished a so-far unnumbered chapter to this year's Advent calendar. That would make three finished parts and one half-written one already. Go me! Usually, I don't start before the last week of November.

Have worked out some more Dwarf charcter sheets to the retaking Moria story. Still a long way to go, but I'm working on it.

I have exactly 45 minutes left to be 50 years old. Then I'll become another year older. Where has all the time gone?

Still lagging behind with the French holiday report thingy. By this (lack of) speed, I'll be still at it next summer. Gah!

Can't think of anything else. Frigging weatherfront shifts make me all shifty-eyed and drained. This getting older part really sucks.

Edit: Uh, oh! I knew I was a ditz! Thanks for the birthdy card, [livejournal.com profile] rcfinch!

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] jastaelf!

Your birthday fic,The Web of Darkness, also nicknamed "Drizzt in Mirkwood", has been posted to FF.Net, as it's Teh Ebol X-over(TM), and more elated archives won't accept it.

I hope you'll like it. It has the required Thranduil angsting (in later chapters), Avari Elves, Nazgul failing spectacularly with their Cunning Plan (TM) and also Dwarves (in a later chapter), because Drizzt was a Dwarf-friend, and I couldn't really leave out the sturdy ones. I hope you don't mind.

Many happy returnings, and have a really, really nice day tomorrow!

... which will be [livejournal.com profile] jastaelf's birthday fic. I've written 4 full chapters already, some of it is a way bit creepy, but I'm content with it. Chapter 5 is on its way.

I might have to post it un-betaed, though, at least for the beginning. Just as some of the Edhellond anniversary fics. Too many eskimos, too few fish... or whatnot. I'm tired, we have a heat wave, school starts on Monday, and I've already been called to the principal before the whole thing begins, so I'm having such joyous expectations - NOT! Don't expect me to be coherent.

Went to Vienna with Mum to end the summer with a nice experience. Got me the 3rd season of Buffy on DVD, the 8th season of Stargate and some Babylon 5 stuff I've never heard before. No Alien Nation, no Andromeda. I wish frigging amazon.uk would accept our money. They have such nice boxed editions, and in Region 2 coding, too... ah, well.

Almost finished the "Tales Before Tolkien" anthology of modern fantasy stories. Some of them were nice, some of them were utter crap. I'd like to write a few reviews about them, but just don't feel up to the challenge.

Got the original Underworld movie, after all. It's... interesting, even though a bit too brutal for my taste. Liked the werewolf scientist a lot. Too bad he got killed. It's always the funny, quirky guys with personality who have to bite the dust. Looking forward to watch the sequel, soon.

Blade - the Series is finished on PRO7. Too bad the show was never picked up for a second season, although Blade himself is the least interesting character in the whole thing. I kinda liked Marcus Van Scriver, even if he was evil. [livejournal.com profile] larian would hate the show, as Kavan Smith dies a horrible death in it. *g*

More French picspam as soon as I get around editing my photos. Still hate the keypad of my new Notebook. Still miss my old PC. Still unable to access my saved work, due to the lack of some programs on said Notebook. *sighs* Life is complicated.

I started to repost Seal On My Heart to the TFF archive, as this is the only one where I can post all the adult parts, too.

A pity that it's also the archive with a very low feedback rate, unles you are a Big Name Author (which I am not) or your friends feel like reading - which they already have on FF.Net in this particular case. In any case, the newest chapters haven't been posted to FF.Net to begin with, due to the erotic content and the new "no quotes at all"-rule, and I've re-vamped the old chapters, too, deleting quite a few paragraphs that dragged along heavily. I think it's a better story now, and perhaps one day I'll even manage to finish it.

Also, I posted a very belated birthday ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] archet to [livejournal.com profile] edhellondawards. It's actually a discarded scene from SMOH that no longer fit into the story, and I didn't know what to do with it. I'm very sorry, Archet, that I haven't thought of it earlier - but it's all yours if you're willing to accept it. You'll have to friend the comm, though - the piece is friends-locked, because of the erotic content.
