... concerning the basket weaving. I've tried to put together the existing three sides and the basket promises to be an uneven, clumsy and ugly piece of work. I will finish the fourth size, just because I'm stubborn like a mule, but will never give this pattern another try. I've found another one on YouTube - more than one, actually, all of which are done without any glue involved, meaning that the end result won't be sticky and spotty and altogether disgusting. I hope. If not - well, there will be another way to use up my collected toilet rolls.

In other news, it's still freaking hot over here. Temperatures peaked at 32 degrees, they are still at 28 degrees at the moment. Mum is suffering with her aching joints a great deal, I'm just uninspired and sleepy all the time. I had to do the grocery shopping in the early morning, when it was "only" 22 degrees, and that meant getting up an hour and a half earlier than I usually do. Getting up early isn't something I do easily, but needs must. I'll have to do the cooking in the early morning tomorrow, too, or else I'd keel over in the kitchen. Oh, joy.

As for social life, I talked to H. and my friend Evie in the early evening, so at least we still know that the other one is alive. Evie is still at working age, and (my former) Boss Lady is getting more insane with each passing year. Poor colleagues are run ragged, and a lot of things she makes them do are overblown or completely unnecessary. God, am I happy to be an old hag and retired!

{hugs}Sounds like the pattern is just not good.

I hope the weather cools down soon — here it is freezingly cold (bright and sunny, which I have found makes the cold sharper) although I am sure that our idea of cold — and hot for that matter! — over here is very different from yours there!

Here's to being retired! I suspect I am more of an old biddy, or at least that's how people see me :)

Are you in the southern hemisphere too?

Yes, eastern Australia. Luckily a long way from the floods (so I shouldn't complain) and it has been very dry as well as cold.

It was crisp and clear. It’s cloudy now, 7 degrees. What about you?

Nah, it's just one of those things that work for everyone except me. 😭

What's an old biddy, BTW?

Too bad about the baskets.

I hope the new method for weaving TP baskets works, as the old one seemed hopelessly complicated. But, at least you were brave enough to try it.

The weather has been wonderful here. But, I have air conditioning, so I that is why. I wish you and your Mum cooler days.

One of those days I might get AC, too, but I'm trying to postpone it as long as possible because my eyes can't deal with it very well. Mum's even less.

Yes, I hate summer too. Like you, I try to get up earlier to beat the heat in summer, although that isn’t always successful because of insomnia.
The weather here is gorgeous right now. Crisp and cool. 10-12 Celsius during the day, colder at night. I was raving about how much I love winter to some family members as they all stared at me in horror. Turns out the love I have for winter isn’t a common trait. I would rather have two winters and no summer at all.
So yes, I totally understand disliking the heat. It’s so hard to do anything at all.
Well, you certainly were patient with your basket weaving. You gave it every chance to co-operate!
And I quite like being an old hag too.

I prefer winter to summer as well. Especially now that I can afford not to leave the house when the ways are iced over. At least you can heat the house/put on warm clothes against the cold!

Retirement is highly underrated. I had the great pleasure of being able to do so ten years early and have not regretted one single moment of it. I'm sure if you haunt YouTube long enough you'll find one hundred and one uses for toilet roll middles.

I haven't regretted retiring, either. I wish I could have done so earlier, so that Mum and I could have done some more travelling... in reasonable seasons, not in the height of summer, which was when school holidays allowed us to do so.

It's supposed to get very hot here next week as well. Do.not.want! Argh!

Yeah, I wish I was retired as well. It seems to be a prerequisite for managers to be crazy. Exceptions allowed.

And those exceptions are few and far between, unfortunately.

There are lots of baskets on Pinterest, but none look as cute as the one you've posted!

I've found a different one on YouTube and gave it a try. I made some mistakes, so mine doesn't quite look like the original, but I'm fairly happy with it. Will give it another try, careful to avoid the mistakes.
