I've just posted a new entry to [livejournal.com profile] gaheris_lives. Hard to imagine that it's been almost two years since we last updated that comm. Hopefully, there will be more life in the future. It's all about some ridiculous fun, after all, and we all need some of that in our lives, right?

Hereby I announce the birth of [livejournal.com profile] gaheris_lives, a new community that [livejournal.com profile] artemis10002000 are planning to use as a place where crack!RPG and/or crack!Round Robin set in an alternate Andromeda universe can take place. We've taken upon ourselves the heavy burden to play/write Tyr Anasazi and Gaheris Rhade, respectively, so it will be a Nietzschean-heavy thing, no aspect of which ought to be taken seriously.

We're looking for other participants at the moment, as well as for suggestions about the entire stuff. If you want to have part in some absolute, disrespectful silliness, hop over and join. :)

After more than a year, we finally managed to make a one-day-trip to our beloved Vienna again. We were supposed to go there last summer, but Mum got into the hospital just a day before. So, we were both very happy about it.

The day was great, although very exhausting. Stupid trains were late by almost an hour, it was very cold in the morning and in the evening, so I might get ill yet (hope I won't, though - took aspirin and will bake tomorrow, which provides a nice, warm environment).

In any case, we had fun. And I got a real Easter treat by Saturn (the electronics shop). I found the boxed edition of Atlantis' 5th season, which was the primary reason why I wanted to go. Aside from that, Babylon 5 and Andromeda seasons were on sale, so now I'm the proud owner of the B5 episodes I lacked from the 5th season. Granted, I had to buy the whole 5th season for that, but I got it for a third of the original price, so I call it a bargain.

The usual pre-Easter insanity was largely over already, but it wasn't so bad, honestly. We got a handful of small chocolate bunnies and bees (they're freaking cute), bought a raisin bread at Anker's (the best bakery chain in Austria), so that I won't have to bake it, too, tomorrow... and it's actually better than mine, the dough isn't that heavy.

So, I'm a happy camper. Easter decoration (painted eggshells) is ready, Easter eggs are coloured, Easter ham is cooked, Easter bread is bought - all I have to do tomorrow is to bake Ischler and Russischen Zupfkuchen, and the feast is being cared for. Yay!

It's a good thing, actually, as I've finished the next chapter of "Atlantis Café" and need to type it up.

One of my rare and precious fans on FF.Net (yes, I still do have a few) took it upon himself to recommend my stories on the spacebattles.com website. I think he came to me through Still Not in Kansas, but apparently, now he reads just about everything I post, even if he mostly comments on sci-fi stuff. He's even recced An Autumn Fair in Halabor when someone on that forum asked for good LOTR fic recs.

Now, the funny part is that he seems to believe that I'm a guy. He keeps referring to me as "he". I don't know whether it is because he expects female writers to produce bad slash and/or sappy romances complete with Mary Sues, or because the Spacebattles members are overwhelmingly male, but it's funny nonetheless. I wonder if I should leave him his illusions? ;))

Speaking of recs, here's a bit of self-promotion: I've posted the new chapter of "Out of Legends" to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. An update on FF.Net will follow as soon as my beta gets his capable hands on it.

Nothing new work-wise yet.
wiseheart: (Tyr Anasazi)
I've just put it up to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. One more chapter to close the current Atlantis arc, and then I can finally let them met with the Andromeda crew.

It'll be posted to FF.Net, too, as soon as possible. Hope erinnyes is still willing to do the beta. He's such a gem.

Got Preciousss from the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lhun_dweller, I have! Now I own the complete Season 2 of "Andromeda" on DVDs I can actually watch! Yayness!!!

I foresee long TV-nights. Which, considering that I can't sleep anyway, is a very practical thing.

Thanks, Jenn! You're the best!

Addendum: More Precioussessss!

Now my Prydain collection is complete. The most generous [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris has just sent me The Foundling, a collection of Prydain stories. *does happy dance*

Thanks, Gemma! You're a jewel, too!

It's been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib and to FF.Net.

To my great delight, I got the first truly helpful piece of concrit in a review since I hit the Net, eight or so years ago. This Mackon person put his/her finger at the exact spot of the chapter I felt a bit off myself, without knowing exactly what was wrong with it: Harper's characterization, that he had changed perhaps too fast.

Now, I know that most people don't like their favourite charcters to change at all, but IMO, one of the greatest flaws of Andromeda's 2nd season was (aside from Saint Dylan taking over instead of the full cast) that it didn't deal properly with Harper's Magog infestation and what that might mean for him. Aside from that little scene in "Exit Strategies", he mostly went on the same cheerful, slightly manic way as always. I just don't think that he would have.

That said, the reviewer was right. Harper's mood shifts were too sudden in this chapter. And while it can be expected from a person waiting for an extremely painful and messy death in the near future, I'll have to deal with that mistake somehow in furter chapters. If I can.

In any case, it was very nice to get some concrit from a person who actually likes the story and has proper knowledge of the source material.

Yeah, I seem to be on a roll. Autumn break and no school/kids/stress can do that to a person. I've finished Chapter 6 of Out of Legends and posted it to FF.Net and [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Go me!

I think it was a good thing that I've posted it to the TV crossovers section on FF.Net. Sheppardites are less likely to show up there and abuse an autor who hates their favourite idiot. I actually got fairly good reviews for that piece, as well as for "The Lost Warrior" - from people who've read before, and also from people who popped up for the first time. Of course, I can't compare myself with such celebrities as AlbertG, but at least my work got noticed.

[livejournal.com profile] artemis10002000, I'd like to discuss certain plot ideas with you re: "Out of Legends", when you get over to read the latest update. Are you willing?
wiseheart: (Tyr Anasazi)
The third chapter of Out of Legends has been posted to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Enjoy!

Don't look behind the tag. Nothing to see there, honestly. Just my usual seething about the injustice of fandom(s).

I've linked the few stories I still like to [livejournal.com profile] telekis_vendiak. Just in case someone wants to read good sci-fi. There are a few Tolkienfic recs, too, but fewer. I've all but stopped reading Tolkienfic... or writing it.

I've meant to write someting about it for a long time - and essay, perhaps, for the Otherworlds board - but my thoughts never seemed to form a coherent whole for that. So I'll just write down my woes as they come to my mind.

Okay, babbled enough. I just wanted to add that I won't be watching Atlantis in Season 4. I've read spoliers and transcripts about how Season 3 will end, and it's not the show I've grown fond of after a rather bumpy start anymore.
wiseheart: (Default)
Or, to repeat Dr. McKay's elegant phrase, a certifiable whackjob. Yes, I've signed up to the Zelenka ficathon at [livejournal.com profile] fic4radek. As if I didn't have enough unfinished WIPs. Well, the advantage of a ficathon is that they want finished stories. And Zelenka is adorable.

Also, I joined the [livejournal.com profile] notshep comm. It's a small one, but we few people who despise Sheppard need a place, too. Not much going on, actually. But since my Atlantis fic isn't very Sheppard-friendly (to put it mildly), perhaps I'll find people who actually would like it.

Oh, and I joined [livejournal.com profile] andromedafix, too. Found a few excellent stories. Might later add them to my fic rec page, once they are finished. So, it's mostly sci-fi time nowadays. Since 2007's first piece of so-called concrit (read: bitching without reason) killed off any indication I might have felt towards writing Tolkienfic for a while, I need greener pastures.

Oh, and by the way, [livejournal.com profile] classics_slash is a great place to find new and different reading material.
wiseheart: (blueplanet)
The most generous [livejournal.com profile] lhun_dweller gifted several Andromeda DVDs upon me, so that I finally could watch them in original. Sadly, those are Region 1 DVDs, which cannot be played on my DVD-player. So, if any of you Americans want to have them, holler, and I shall send them to you. There's no need for them to keep up valuable place in my crowded book-case if I can't watch them.

The DVDs contain the following episodes (my favourites, by the way):

Season One
1.01 - Under the Night (pilot episode)
1.02 - An Affirming Flame
1.03 - To Loose the Fateful Lightning
1.04 - D Minus Zero
1.05 - Double Helix
1.11 - The Pearls That Were His Eyes
1.12 - The Mathematics of Tears
1.13 - Music of a Distant Drum
1.14 - Harper 2.0

Season Two
2.06 - All Too human
2.07 - Una Salus Victus
2.08 - Home Fires
2.09 - Into the Labyrinth (with James Marsters, mmmm!)
2.19 - Belly of the Beast
2.20 - The Knight, Death and the Devil
2.21 - Immaculate Perception
2.22 - Tunnel at the End of the Light

You can have them for free, as they was given to me the same way. If you wish to compensate for the tapes you pick, you can order the Region 2 version for me from amazon.coom.uk and we are even.

Answers to this entry will be screened, so only you and me can see them. Feel free to be bold. ;))

If the most exciting thing you can write about is a domestic report, then you surely do have a dull life. On the other hand, having an interesting life is something of a Chinese curse, isn't it?

In any case, I finally finished posting Birthright 2 - The Gathering to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. It was interesting to re-read the whole thing (I had to, because of the hand coding) again and finding that I still liked it.

Yes! Two new chapters at once! Go me! Now there's hope that I'll reach the point wherethe Andromeda/TNG crossover actually does happen before the 22nd century. *g*

Weird day

School's starting into the usual mid-term madness, so I thought I'll write a quick update before the horrors swallow me entirely.

Alrighty, I made a glorious step towards actual online efficiency today: I discovered how I can edit the files already posted to my own website with the help of Geocities File Manager. Hah! Took me only three years or so! Am so proud of myself!

Also, I realized that after having scanned the programmes on German TV meticulously for weeks, I still managed to miss the re-start of Andromeda. *curses* Stupid RTL II always brings sci-fi series on workdays, late in the night, so overlooking The Big Sci-fi Event (TM) on Saturday afternoond is understandable - but still annoying. Missing the two-hour pilot, of all things, plus Stargate, dammit!

But sorting out old videotapes I actually found four other episodes of Andromeda's second season - and which's even better, among them the one featuring Über-hottie James Marsters as Nietzschean Archduke Charlemagne Bolivar! *does happy dance*

Now, I'm still not impressed by the show very much, but as I said before, studying the characters helps with my writing, even with German dubbing.

Nothing new on the writing front. Still working on Birthright 2, although some readers have been asked when am I going to update Crossroads, Kansas and Alternate Caretaker. Not to mention the countless Tolkien WIPs. I so hate to disappoint anyone, but I'm permanently exhausted and just can't kick my brain into creative mode, it seems. :((
wiseheart: (Default)
So, frigging FF.net won't let me log in. It won't let me review, either. Now I'm forced to post the next chapter of Birthright 2 - The Gathering here and on the Memory Alpha list, respectively.

No, I'm not happy about it. But here you are:

BIRTHRIGHT 2 – THE GATHERING
by Soledad

Author’s note:

For disclaimer, rating, warnings, etc., see the Prologue. (Which you can find on FF.net and in Memory Alpha's Files section)

This chapter is a direct continuation of the previous one – for reasons of tolerable length. Some lines, as before, are directly quoted from the episode, for the same reason as before. Also, this is the last chapter to stay this close to the original. From now on, we’ll go more into the gap-filling and AU directions.
