Mum and I went to the Auchan supermarket today because the fridge was empty. So was the larder... or rather the kitchen cupboard we use as a larder. The idiots who planned these houses (men, obviously) didn't think that a larder would be necessary.

Anyway, we went together after work, because I don't dare to carry as much as before since I had the latest long-lasting back problems. We bought almost everything we needed (still have to go back for flour and sugar tomorrow) and managed to bring everything home in one go... right until we turned into our street and were about ten metres from the front door. Then some people we know passed by and greeted us, and Mum bent forward a tad too much to avoid stepping into some uneven piece of the paving. (Did I mention that the street lamps are worth shit in our street?)

In any case, she lost balance and instinctively threw herself backwards, in order not to fall onto her bad knees and landed on her back. Fortunately, she was wearing her short winter coat of fake fur, so the impact was fairly mild. She hit her head a bit, but other than a slight swelling, which we got back with cold compresses, she is unhurt. The people we met helped her back to her feet and supported her to the door, and she took it all in her stride with good humour, but boy, was I scared shitless as I saw her lying on the ground!

As I said, we were very, very lucky. I can imagine her guardian angel wiping cold sweat from their brow. I know I wiped some from mine.

I'm trying, but she won't let me. Today she insisted on cooking already. But I baked her cheesy buns, so we are on equal footing, I guess. *g*

Yea, it's good!

And I totally get the not wanting to be pampered. Have the same problem. I guess the older you get, the more you value your independence to do things for yourself. Even when you SHOULD rest *huffs and grins*
