Let's Party!

Two years ago we had great fun with this thing. So, I thought, why not give it another try?

It's called the Collapsed Threads Game, and the goal is to have so many comments that the individual threads would collapse. Deadline is October 9 (next Thursday), which is my 52nd birthday. Yes, I'm actually that old, at least on paper. *g*

Two years ago, we had 250+ comments. I aim to break the record this time. So, talk to me, ask questions, send people my way, have fun - the goal is to reach at least four pages. More were better, but four pages full of collapsed threads would be wonderful, too.

I won't have a birthday party in RL, so let's throw one in cyberspace and have a good time, eh?

Oh, and I'll bounce up the entry date each day till October 9, so that newcomers can join the party, too. The more, the merrier. *g*

Fazit:
Many heartfelt thanks to all those who came to my virtual party: those who generated interesting discussions, those who sent me virtual cake and those who just dropped by to brighten my day. I had great fun, I had inspiring discussions, and we have broken the record - thank you!

Special thanks to altariel and the_wild_iris who sent many new, lovely visitors to the party - I hope some of you will drop by from time to time later.

Thanks again, it was great fun... the best party I could have imagined.

Okay, let's start this off. What to say? I think there should be more fnatasy shows on tv. There's been the splurge of superheroes ones, and lots of attempts at scifi that generally fail but where is all the fantasy stuff?

Oh, I agree! I can't even remember any true fantasy shows lately. Movies, yes, rare as they are, but shows? I'm afraid the last one I saw was an "Ivanhoe" adaptation, with a very young Roger Moore in the starring role - and even that was more history than fantasy.

I dunno, I'm rather looking forward to this one. Mum & I are going to a restaurant where you pay a certain sum and for that you can eat everything that's there for the next hour and a half. It will be fun. And not having to entertain the relatives even more so.

I must admit, it was born of pure, unmasked envy two years ago. I was getting around in my various fandoms, seeing other people geting dozens of comments for their updates, so that the threads kept collapsing, one after another, and it never happened to me, either review-verse or simply comment-verse. I wanted to have that, too, if only once. So I asked for it then, and thought to resurrect the idea now.

BTW, is anyone else from the Marcus-Neroon list on LJ, do you know it?

And I'm sorry for not commenting on your LJ as much as I ought to, but I'm not into anime, and in nine cases out of then I haven't got they faintest idea what you are posting about. *is ashamed* That is one genre I've avoided like the plague since the Pannonia Cartoon Studios have been "destroyed". We used to have incredible artists who won prizes each year, and now all of it is dead. A pity, because I don't like the US carton style... or the Japanese stuff, either. So I just stopped watching cartoons.

And since we're already discussing fantasy series... You know what's another thing that I would really like to see? Some more "space science-fiction" again. You know, like the 90s sci-fi, with aliens, space ships, other galaxies. Most of that science-fiction we get nowadays (at least what's being aired here in Germany) is earthbound and deals with some vague alien threat, but we don't actually see aliens or foreign worlds. I like some of these, such as 4400, but I'd really like to see something different again.

Well, there's Flash Gordon that just started two weeks ago an it's alright, but I just can't help being reminded of "Sliders" when I watch it. Since I believe Flash Gordon is a remake, Sliders was probably based on Flash, but that doesn't change anything for me. I like it, but it's still too earth-bound for my tastes.

New BSG is too grim for my liking, I watched the first season but I lost interest in it. I just couldn't sympathize with these humans. Half the time I couldn't help thinking the Cylons had the right idea trying to wipe out that humanity.
And the new Stargate... well, it's got space ships, but we already discussed that show.

I'd like something that really gives you the feeling you're in a different time and a faraway place.

And on another note, I'd really like a good European science-fiction show. Even if it's totally earthbound and deals with a vague threat of alien invasion.

Well, I NEVER gave the new BSG the chance because they twisted my beloved characters beyond recognition - I'm a rabid fan of the old 1978 series and will always be - but yeah, you are right. A good, solid, old-fashioned space opera would be a great thing.

People have recced "Firefly" to me, but I just can't get my hands on it. Do you know that one?

Welcome, welcome! Actually, the only Cadfael fic I've posted so far is Vox Angelica, to FF.Net as well as to hiddenrealms. Although I did discuss a few more story ideas somewhere. Either here or on my Otherworlds list.

I'm glad you liked the fic. I love Cadfael very much - my generous friends in the UK, the Netherlands and the USA helped me to hunt down the books I couldn't get here via the English bookshop, so I'm the proud owner of every single novel and the beautiful tome about Cadfael's herb garden, too. The only thing I'm still after is that Cadfael companion I read about somewhere. Perhaps another trip to the bookshop would be in order, soon.
