Let's Party!

Two years ago we had great fun with this thing. So, I thought, why not give it another try?

It's called the Collapsed Threads Game, and the goal is to have so many comments that the individual threads would collapse. Deadline is October 9 (next Thursday), which is my 52nd birthday. Yes, I'm actually that old, at least on paper. *g*

Two years ago, we had 250+ comments. I aim to break the record this time. So, talk to me, ask questions, send people my way, have fun - the goal is to reach at least four pages. More were better, but four pages full of collapsed threads would be wonderful, too.

I won't have a birthday party in RL, so let's throw one in cyberspace and have a good time, eh?

Oh, and I'll bounce up the entry date each day till October 9, so that newcomers can join the party, too. The more, the merrier. *g*

Fazit:
Many heartfelt thanks to all those who came to my virtual party: those who generated interesting discussions, those who sent me virtual cake and those who just dropped by to brighten my day. I had great fun, I had inspiring discussions, and we have broken the record - thank you!

Special thanks to altariel and the_wild_iris who sent many new, lovely visitors to the party - I hope some of you will drop by from time to time later.

Thanks again, it was great fun... the best party I could have imagined.

Those idiots can't understand the difference between a US action movie full of muscle-bound idiots and an historic tale... even a more or less fictionally historic one.

For me, Balian was a true hero, because he saved the people by giving up the city... and becaue he fought more with his brains than with his sword.

You know, when I first watched KoH, I really liked the movie. But the moment I fell in love with it, that's when Balian surrendered. Because for once, that's a hero who wouldn't get his people killed for pride, whether it be personal or national pride. He's one who realised that there's a war he couldn't win and so he decided to do the sensible thing and save the lives of the Jerusalem citizens.

That alone deserves applause, for it goes against the grain of contemporary Hollywood filmmaking and so I bet the producers got a lot of trouble about it from studio bosses and investors telling them "you can't do that! The hero MUST win the day, that's how movies work!"

Even though Balian did win the day... only not in the sense we're used to seeing on TV.

Oh, I completely agree. Either win the day by brutal force or die heroically - giving up to save people doesn't seem to match the Hollywood cliché, does it?

And yes, Balian definitely did win the day in my eyes, too.

I wish more knight movies would risk endings that aren't all neat and expected.

I can't believe I didn't learn of the new Star Trek movie until last week. I'm really out of the loop in Star Trek. When I read that it's about the young TOS crew, my first thought was "oh no, Stargate soap opera II!" But I'm feeling neutral about it now. I like the trailer, though it lacks the TOS atmosphere. That's my main problem with movie XI. I can't imagine that they'll be capture the atmosphere of TOS believably.

No, I can't imagine it, either. The crappy technology of that time was so much a part of the old series that it's naive charme just can't be re-made with today's methods.

Nonetheless, I'd love to see the trailer myself. Wherever did you find it?

Well, young!Kirk does look like a caricature, and considering the original, it's quite the achievement; Shatner was a caricature himself. I loved every single one of the TOS crew, including the redshirt that was killed in the episode of the week, but always despised Kirk... I still do.

Perhaps. Although I can't say that I hate young!Kirk already - he just looks like one of those countless caricatures I've already seen. I'll watch the movie nonetheless, and hope the creators haven't screwed it up so much as they did with the "Enterprise" series.
