Two years ago we had great fun with this thing. So, I thought, why not give it another try?

It's called the Collapsed Threads Game, and the goal is to have so many comments that the individual threads would collapse. Deadline is October 9 (next Thursday), which is my 52nd birthday. Yes, I'm actually that old, at least on paper. *g*

Two years ago, we had 250+ comments. I aim to break the record this time. So, talk to me, ask questions, send people my way, have fun - the goal is to reach at least four pages. More were better, but four pages full of collapsed threads would be wonderful, too.

I won't have a birthday party in RL, so let's throw one in cyberspace and have a good time, eh?

Oh, and I'll bounce up the entry date each day till October 9, so that newcomers can join the party, too. The more, the merrier. *g*

Fazit:
Many heartfelt thanks to all those who came to my virtual party: those who generated interesting discussions, those who sent me virtual cake and those who just dropped by to brighten my day. I had great fun, I had inspiring discussions, and we have broken the record - thank you!

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] altariel and [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris who sent many new, lovely visitors to the party - I hope some of you will drop by from time to time later.

Thanks again, it was great fun... the best party I could have imagined.

Addendum:
And lookie, I got a wonderful birthday ficlet from Larner! Am so pleased! It has been forever since anyone gifted a birthday fic upon me. *is happy*

Okay, let's start this off. What to say? I think there should be more fnatasy shows on tv. There's been the splurge of superheroes ones, and lots of attempts at scifi that generally fail but where is all the fantasy stuff?

Hey - am I'm the first to comment? Kewl!

So, upcoming birthday? Have you noticed that birthdays really aren't what they used to be; they were much more fun 30 years ago ...

Bring out the champagne and let's party! :-)

Oh, I agree! I can't even remember any true fantasy shows lately. Movies, yes, rare as they are, but shows? I'm afraid the last one I saw was an "Ivanhoe" adaptation, with a very young Roger Moore in the starring role - and even that was more history than fantasy.

OTOH - does Dinotopia count?

I dunno, I'm rather looking forward to this one. Mum & I are going to a restaurant where you pay a certain sum and for that you can eat everything that's there for the next hour and a half. It will be fun. And not having to entertain the relatives even more so.

For my part, I don't really believe in it, but I won't try to talk anyone else out of it.

lol abot not having to entertain the relatives.

Going to that restaurant sounds like a good plan. Is your mother feeling well again?

I reckon Dinotopia should count. Hmm, fantasy. I think BBC's Merlin and Robin Hood could be classed as fantasy, certainly mthyic, but more kids/family orientated. I'm trying to think of other fantasy shows...do vampires come under that or is that truly more of the horror genre?

Oooh all you can eat buffets are fun! Of course best preparation is to eat nothing beforehand ;)

What type of food do they serve there? I've always wanted to go to that sort of thing but with world cuisine, rather than just one. I don't know of any like that over here and have been told U.S casinos are the best for that, not that I have any intention to visit there anytime soon.

Rather horror, I'm afraid. No, really can't think of any true fantasy shows, at least not such that would be shown in Hungarian or German TV. And there isn't any good, old-fashioned sci-fi any longer, either.

When I think about it, B5 used to have a great deal of fantasy in it, despite the Sci-fi settings. All those First Ones and their crusade against the Shadows...

The funny thing is, she didn't actually feel unwell for a day! The whole mess started with a routine blood test, which she needs because of her medications, and still continues with the doctors pushing her around like a chess piece, and she still feeling well. Weird thing, it really is, as Sam Gamgee would say.

I always think when we arrive that I wouldn't stop eating for the whole time. But the truth is, the extreme variety of food makes you feel full up much faster than when you are just eating one dish or two.

They serve a wide variety indeed: from cold and warm entrees through cold and warm soups to dozens of various main courses, with or without sauce, fried, roasted, steamed, game, fish, poultry, pork, beef, then salads, fruits, desserts... it's hard to count.

What would you like for your birthday? (apart from a collapsing thread, that is)

Well, I asked for a very special cake to be made. It's called Dobos torta (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Dobos-Torte/Detail.aspx), and Granny used to bake it for me when I was much younger. We don't make it nowadays, because it's a complicated one to make, but this year we're going to have one... hopefully. We make it a lot simpler than in the recipe I've linked to, but it's every bit as delicious, I'm sure.

Also, we're going to the Museum of Arts to see a temporary Egyptian exposition. We don't really give another things for birthdays or Xmas anymore; we gift things like a movie, a visit in a museum or a short trip... that sort of presents.

*drools over cake recipe* Could you spare a slice for me? That cake looks deeeelicious! :-)

The trip to the museum sounds really interesting; such a fascinating culture. What a good idea, to give each other presents like that.

I'll try to remember to take a photo of a slice and upload it for you. ;)

As for the presents, we always say that we don't need more junk in the flat. What we see, however, especially if we experience it together, nobody can take from us.

You are up late, though. Put the family to bed to have some peace and quiet?

Ooooh - thank you, I'll look forward to the cake!

And you're quite right, I'm up late after the family went to bed. This is the time of day I enjoy the most - just me, alone, peace and quiet. Nice. :-)

Thought so, in which case I can't think of any true fantasy shows of recent times. That's quite sad. Mind you I'm not sure what exactly I'd hope for from a fantasy show...

The idea that to some degree your name determines or is relevant to what job you are likely to do (or may be best at?) - I don't know it any detail but it came up in conversation recently and sounded intriguing, if a bit vague and unscientific. The sort of example would be someone with the surname Reed becoming a librarian etc.
