As in each year, I'm throwing a virtual birthday party, which starts today and ends on October 9 at midnight, sharp. The goal, as always, is to produce as many collapsing threads on as many pages as possible. You are welcome to joins, start threads, post pictures and participate on every discussion you want to.

To make the party more appealing, here are pics of the two cakes I baked for my real birthday party, which we had yesterday with a bunch of colleagues - a week too early because of school schedules.

Pineapple tart with vanilla pudding:

And a chocolate sponge cake, filled with whiskey-orange marmalade, which we bought in London about a century ago, and decorated with coconut shards:

So, I'm turning 61, soon, come and celebrate with me! Oh, and cake recipes and pictures totally count as threads, too.

They are cute. I'm not a dog person myself - or a cat person or even a goldfish person - but they are cute.

Of course, as one of my students once put: "What does she need pets for? She has us!", so perhaps that's why I never got into pets.

You must have a lot of living space to be able to house several animal co-habitants, though. I can't imagine having any on my 53 square metres of concrete.

it is a 4 bedroom house with a front and backyard. The backyard is very important with dogs.

I can imagine; they'd need room to move. I find it irresponsible, or even cruel to keep large dogs in tiny concrete flats like so many people do in our neighbourhood. The poor things must be totally claustrophobic.
