Due to my recent Primeval marathon, I hunted down the webisodes preceding Series 4 on the Web and transcribed them. I'm going to post the transcriptions here because I think they're very helpful in understanding what happened in Series 4 and 5.

This transcript (and the others following) most likely has a lot of mistakes. I tried to interpret wherever the actors were mumbling, but let’s face it, I’m not a native speaker, and the automatically generated subtitles on YouTube are more a hindrance than any help. Sometimes I even had a hard time to figure out who was speaking!

So, if anyone finds really stupid mistakes, please tell me, so that I can correct them.

In my imagination, the questioner is Mycroft Holmes – or someone very much like him. *g*

Q: Let’s start with names
Lester: (is calm, perhaps even bored) James Lester
Q: Sorry, not your name. The names of the missing members of the team.
Lester: Connor Temple, Abby Maitland and Danny Quinn.

Q: Your name?
Becker: (looks devastated during the whole interview – when did he become such a weepy emo?) Becker

Q: Do you believe they’re still alive?
Lester: You want me to speculate? (sounds insulted)
Becker: We haven’t found any bodies, if that’s what you mean.
Lester: They went through an anomaly into the future. Even if they were killed in that world, they won’t be dead for another X number of centuries, so officially they are still alive.
Becker: I tried to look for them, but after the last attempt when Sarah….
Q: I’ve read the report on Miss Page.
Becker: yeah, well, you can’t go back again after that…
Lester: The rescue attempts were not successful. But one way or another, the mission achieved its goal. I don’t see Helen Cutter popping up anywhere, do you now?
Q: I didn’t know her.
Lester: Lucky you. Nasty woman (considers for a moment). More a lot of cocky.
Becker: (almost in tears) What happened to the others when they went through the anomaly… I think about it ever day… I don’t know…
Q: Do you believe the ARC should be allowed to continue its work?
Lester: It was a colossal mistake to suspend us in the first place. A decision, I believe, the Minister has already had good cause to regret. A Stegosaurus in the members bar of the House of Commons – very unfortunate business.

Jess: (watching said Stegosaurus on the rampage on computer screen) What is that?
Becker: (we only see his eyes; nice eyes, though) Stegosaurus. Deer (???) Jurassic.
Jess: (looks as if she would become sick)
Q: Do you wish to continue, Miss Parker? We can end the interview now.
Jess: (keeps watching the rampage on screen with big, saucer-y eyes)

Matt: (is staring at the screen with a frown)
Q: That footage was captured last week, Mr Anderson. You don’t seem particularly surprised by it.
Matt: (shrugs, with one of his many non-expressions) I’ve been told I don’t have a very expressive face.

Jess: Was that… was that real?

Matt: Besides, after a month of very strange vetting procedures and a job interview at a top secret government facility I was kind of prepared for you to show me pretty much anything.

Jess: This… this job... I wouldn’t come into contact with… you know…
Q: The dinosaurs? Oh, no, you won’t. (You wish!)
Jess: Right, then… good.
Matt: Look, are we done here? I’m (not???) busy trying to find a new job at present.

Lester: Why do you think you’ve got so far in this selection process, Miss Parker?
Jess: Why? Because I’m the best team coordinator you’re gonna find.

Q: So, will you withdraw your resignation?
Becker: I don’t think so, no.
Q: James Lester thinks they’re still alive: Abby, Connor and Danny.
Becker: He doesn’t.(?)
Q: The fact is, Captain Becker, we need James Lester, and he wants you. You will be briefed shortly, but the headline is this: the ARC will be allowed to carry on its work… in one form or another.

Lester: In one form or another? I’m not sure I like the sound of that.


I think I know now what's triggered all that Lester/Becker fic, because otherwise I really don't see it.

a lot of snark
a man in a suit to run things
time travel
and a flying dinosaur

and it's NOT Torchwood - - it's actually better written and more consistent in its story-telling.

I agree that it is much, much better written than TW - Promeval actually has a concept, a coherent storyline across several seasons and decent characterization. Even though Connor annoys the living daylight out of me and I can't quite buy certain facts. Like Helen having her own little cloning facility. But other than that, a great little series.
