This was Weta's original Balin concept:

I find it wonderful, much better than the little clown he turned out in the end. So, I am using this picture for my Balin, in all my stories, especially in "Mazarbul". Do you like it?

And since I'm shamelessly displaying Dwarf images already, here is one of my female Bifur from "Dwobbit", complete with fake travelling beard and the tattoos she earned after fighting Mannish footpads on the Road. I couldn't find a single linkable image, but she is the first on the left in the upper row.

Personally, I find her stunning, but that is probably just me.

I think the pictures are truly awesome. It makes Balin look like he can kick some orcbutt when needed, not to mention other butts.

Bifur looks quite awesome without the beard, which is probably the reason for wearing one.

She is awesome indeed. I particularly like the jagged black tattoos, which I decided were warrior's inks she got after she had been first blooded in that skirmish against Mannish footpads, right before the beginning of "Dwobbit", and the multiple earrings.

I wonder if Gandalf met some of those footpads right before meeting Thorin Oakenshield in The Prancing Pony, before Thorin retook Erebor. The message about a reward for Thorin“s head looked like it was written on skin, I shudder when I think about what kind of skin it might be.

I don't know, but Dwobbit is not a movieverse story, so it won't really play a role in it.

They are, aren't they? I wonder why PJ chose the film canon version of Balin - perhaps he looked too venerable and would have put Thorin in the background. Of course, since he went for a young Thorin, that was a real danger; especially if you consider that in the Books Thorin is actually older than Balin...
