So, first and foremost: school's out in two weeks. *squeals*
Okay, next week will be hell, but after that things are gonna calm down, and we finish term on June 16. *is insanely happy*

"Elf-root" has been nominated for the MEFAs by Larner. It won't have a rat's chance to win, there are always tons of Hobbit stories, but I don't really care. It was a fun story to write, and I'm glad that people seemed to like it. It had lots of reviews - almost as many as a drabble from some established Hobbit writer would get, so I'm not so bad off, I think. Considering that the only other new Tolkien stuff I wrote in a year were the four independent Halabor vignettes and "The Book of Mazarbul", I'm surprised that I even made it into a nominations. I've got tons of older stories that haven't been nominated yet and thus would be eligible, but nobody reads older stories anymore, so I guess I was lucky. *shrugs*

German TW is gonna show Season 2 of "Torchwood" right after Season 1. On the one side, it's a good thing, at least we won't have to wait for another year or two. On the other side, it's annoying, as I'm going to miss one episode from the middle of the season, perhaps "Meat" or the one coming after it, as I'll be in Belgium or in the Netherlands at that time.

Drat, I really need to find a boxed edition of Season 2. I had no luck last time in Vienna, and the lot that for some unfathomable reason published Season 1 here in Hungary (without the extras, of course) doesn't show any intention to add Season 2. Drat, drat & drat. Those smegheads!

Yes, as you probably can guess, I got completely brainwashed by "Red Dwarf". But there are worse things, I guess. And - Pentecost be blessed - we're looking forward to a loooong weekend. Three days without school! Heh! Am dragging Mum to the new Star Trek movie tomorrow or the day after.

I somehow got the impression that you did not WISH to participate. *headdesk*

Well, congratulations on the nominations. *hugs*

'Elf Root' is a great story; I'll keep my fingers crossed for it! Haven't read the others you mention (yet).

Yay for the long weekend! How's the weather looking? We've been promised sun and 20-25C. Nice, but let's see if it holds true. XD

I didn't make any conscious effort to participate, unlike in previous years because some rude comments really spoiled my joy in the whole thing. I never refuse nominations, though, because at the very least they might make people interested in my writings. God knows, there aren't many in this fandom.

Weather is unusually cool, but I can live with that as long as it doesn't rain. Better for me than heat.

Congratulations to the nomination, "Elf Root" is a great ficlet. I also hope you get a good weekend. Looks like the weather will be nice here, sunny and warm not only over the weekend byt a bit longer.

Heh. You like it because it has Dwarves!

But for a fic that was inspired by a LJ discussion aboutvegetable, it's not half bad, I think.

That is one of the reasons. *nod* There are so many fics about Elves and not nearly enough fics about Dwarves. We dwarffriends need to stick together.

Whee, I didn't know they'd show TW 2 right after season one. Yay!

Yeah, they'll do the whole thing in one long series. Too bad I'll miss one episode in the middle. If I could only order the dratted 2nd season from Amazon! It's not that I couldn't afford the money, it's just that they don't accept our currency. Or if they do, I still haven't figured out how to get them accept mine. *curses*

Maybe there is some Hungarian movie shop on the web which has import DVDs?

To be honest, I've never bought anything online in my entire life. Sad, but true. I don't even know where to start. I'll have to consult my students, I think - they're much better versed in such things that I can ever hope to become.

Try PayPal. You can make international payments from your bank account without a credit card. PayPal handles converting your currency (and yes, it accepts the forint!). I can't remember if Amazon accepts PayPal, but many stores do (including eBay, which invented it).

Well, the sad truth is that without the help of someone who'd know how to do it, I'd never dare to start anything like that. My web skills are nonexistent, and I'm also deeply suspicious. Yeah, it's stupid, I know, but I can't help it.

I hope a friend of mine will come over eventually and navigate me through the process. If not, web shopping will remain an unexplored area for me.

Well, yeah, let's hope it. I'm not very optimistic. You really ought to visit me and show me how it's done. You young people are so much better at this stuff...

*laughs* Just give it a try, it's not that bad :) Be careful, though, that you don't fall prey to some shady business. I don't know what is the standard payment method online in Hungary, but I'm extremely careful with credit card numbers on the net.

That's what I'm worried about. Plus, I've got difficulties with written instructions. They aren't half as clear as the people who write them believe - especially when one isn't technically savvy to begin with.

You see? You just have to visit me! Then you could coach me in the area of web skills, and we could watch the delicious stuff [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris keeps sending me, bless her soul, together. ;)

Congratulations on your nomination! Even if your story doesn't win (and it might; you've done well in the past), just being nominated will mean a chance to pick up more new readers.
