Radek ficathon, Take 3

I've made unexpected headway with the harebrained plot. Spoiler zone behind the tag, so take care! *g*
Okay, here's the deal:
Origins:
The inhabitants of M7L-982 (the planet where Sheppard&Co. get in trouble) aren't reallly Furlings (those were the giants from "The Crystal Skull"), but used to be protected by them at the dawn of their civilization. They still pay Quetzalcoatl great respect, but as to a great leader and teacher, not as a god. They call him the Great Compass, and yes I know it's a title stolen from Andromeda, and no, I don't care. Another Furling protectorate used to be the planet from SG-1 ep. 6.14, "Paradise Lost", at least how I see things. It's canon fact that there was Furling tech in use, but the remnants were humanoid, and that's just too plain boring.
Technology:
Technically, these false Furlings are perhaps the most advanced race in the Pegasus galaxy. They've abandoned space flight to prevent a Wraith attack and built their Stargate (which is every bit as sophisticated, if not a lot more, than the one in Atlantis - they've had ten thousand years to tinker with, after all) in a huge, underground cave.
Using Quetzalcoatl's interdimensional transfer technology (as seen in "The Crystal Skull"), they first send vistiors to a parallel dimension wheer they can do no harm and only then transfer them to their habitat areas. Seen from space - or even close up - the planet seems abandoned, and the treater part of it actually is, save from a few ruins in various stages of decay. The Furligns themselves live in shielded areas, in futuristic cities that would put Star Trek CGI to shame. All these cities are under a protective cloak.
They base their underground industrial plants on clean geothermic energy, so that industrial activity won't register on the sensors of any visiting spaceship. Between the cities, they use the arch-like transporter devices as seen in "Paradise Lost".
Society:
Every single Furling is gay, but they consider themselves as a raace containing four different genders, which actually does have some genetic basics. Alpha males have a trio of XYY chromosomes, Beta males have XYY. Alpha females also have XXY, beta females have XXX. Consequently, they have very male men, full of testosterone, and also a fragile, slender, decidedly feminine version. Similarly, the women are either lean and flat-chested, or overly female (small but voluptuous). I know that this is probably impossible in the cold light of medical science (
ithilwen, please don't shoot me!), but it was fun to think out, and I'd never deny that the whole ting is totally insane.*g*
Alpha males are the leading group of the society - they're intelligent, sexually aggressive and very fertile. They're usually warriors and deplete their excess energy in high-risk sports and duells among each other. Not to the death, though, for that they're way too important. They also visit uninhabited rural words to hunt for highly dangerous predators. Wraith are considered the top prey on their list.
Beta males are techniciants and scientists, as nobody needs to do any actual physical labour, given their level of technology. Some of them are gifted artists. They also have a rudimentary womb where a fertilized egg can be placed with the help of a sophisticated machine. They're capable of carrying a child to term, but it has to be delivered artificially. The fertilization machine takes care for that, too. A Beta male can only be born from the union of an Alpha male and an Alpha female.
Alpha females have basically the same role in society as their male counterparts, but they're a bit handicapped by the fact that they have to retire from vigorous activities during pregnancy. As a rule, they're born from the union of an Alpha and a Beta male - in which case they are infertile - or from that of an Apha male and an Alpha female. Through the fertilization machine, the potential parents (two Alphas) can decide the gender of their offspring, which they chose according to the current needs of society. Alpha females can also be very skilled technicians but rarely have any artistic skills.
Beta females rarely have any occupation, but if they have, they are artists, mostly performance artists. Their numbers are the lowest ones, and they're very much sought after as breeding partners by both sort of males - and as pleasure toys by Alpha females.
Furligns don't believe in the mingling of the opposite gender in sexual intercourse. Procreation is done via the fertilization machine, in lab conditions. Sexual partners are sought from one's own gender, exclusively. Both permanent partnerships and blatant promiscuity are accepted. They start having sex at a very young age (the legal age is the equivalent of 13-14 in Earth terms) but aren't allowed to procreate until full legal maturity (between 24 and 26, in Earth terms).
They only visit other planets in disguise, and don't seek contact with other races. They use the service of Manaran mediators if they had to deal with other races. Their negotiating partners usually don't know who they are, on which planet they live and what they are capable of.
I'm still pondering about such details as skin colour (a general one, due to the extreme intermix among them, or variations?), clothing habits (are they out of their way to display their assets to potential partner, or the exact opposite?) and so on. I also don't know yet how I'm going to solve the main problem for Sheppard&Co., but working out the background is almost more fun than writing the actual story.
