Since I didn't have to cook today, save for putting together a salad, I decided to give [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat's mystery apple and raisin cake a try.

This is the result:

I faithfully followed the original Edd Kimber recipe, with the only exception of adding some roast flaked almonds as decoration. I have to say, it is yummy indeed.

Then I worked on the castle puzzle page for Elise's granddaughter. The page base is almost done, including the sewing on of 9 pieces of Velcro - I never know which sides are the hooks and which the loops; these were the extreme hard and scratchy parts in any case. Am I happy to have them done! To actually finish the base page I still have to stitch along 4 sides, each 15 cm long, but since I'm doing it with running stitch, it won't be too hard. Or wouldn't if I could make straight, even stitches, which I cannot. Not even along the line drawn with a ruler. *sigh*

In any case, that and putting away the washing and preparing the flat for tomorrow's cleaning frenzy (although Mum did a good part of that) was enough activity for one day, I found. So I'm now reading some fanfic, playing some Solitaire and waiting for the Best British Home Cook to start on TV Paprika. Not a baking show, but it has Mary Berry, and that makes it worth watching.

The cake looks good. As for the velcro...I think the 'hard' side is the loop side.
