Not how I had planned to spend my time today. But, as you know, the best laid plans of meeces and men (winks at [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted) can go astray. And they certainly did today.
Grumbling under the cut )

Needless to say that I was in no shape for any crafting to be done. Fortunately, Mum had volunteered to cook in advance (which is why I had to start the day at LIDl - we hadn't had any Vienna sausages at home, which she cuts in slices for the potato goulash), so I was spared the kitchen duty. I watched some telly, did some crossword puzzles and am not planning to do much more for the rest of the day.

... and today's main topic is: hobbies! You know all of mine (writing, crafting, travelling, singing in a choir), but I'd like to know more about yours. So, below are the questions in separate comments as before.

(I'll save reading/writing for another day; oh, and pets totally count!)

I got caught up in the addiction one of my colleagues - also an addict - calls the paper love. Which means creating small (or, in her case, not so small, since she's into scrapbook work) items of paper, just because we can and because they are beautiful. Like every other addiction, it requires lots of spare time, which I don't really have, and a pretty penny for tools and materials, which I fortunately can afford. Tomorrow I'll hit the Aldi supermarket, as they're going to have packages of patterned cardboard and origami paper on sale, as well as sets of pattern cutters. Another colleague asked me to buy such a set for her, too. The madness spreads. ;)

Another madness I've fallen for is Nespresso craft. Meaning the recycling of the used capsules, by removing the coffee rests and making various things out of the small metal hats. I did a number of Santas and angels for Christmas; for Easter, bunnies and chickens are planned. A (male) colleague gifted several hundred used capsules on me - right now, I've cleaned out about two dozens or so. It's going to be a long process, but perhaps I can cajole some of the kids into helping me with them again. Last time they had great fun with all the dirt.

Still, I've managed to type up the rest of Arthur's quest today and sent everything to my long-suffering beta, the gracious [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland. And I even wrote a few pages of my Camelot/Merlin x-over, tentatively titled Magic Mirror, for the lack of a more original title. It's fun to write, although present tense stories are always more tiring for me, I don't know why.

I've picked up stitching cards again... in grand style. I've stitched 22 of them in the last two months, and am still enjoying it. When we were in Graz, I found a little shop that sold metallic threads and bought 8 different hues, although they were rather pricely. It was worth every cent, though; my new stars look amazing.

I also picked up a card-making set in Graz: with single and double cards and envelopes and passepartouts in various colours, with little, glittering adhesive hearts, with a sortiment of small decorative stones and a set of glitter pens. And I've just bought a two sorts of small glass beads last Monday in the Hobby Artist Shop. I intend to try out a few mixed techniques, too.

My fifth-term students find the technique to their liking. So, after they've done their homework, we shove the desks together to form a large table, and they all sit around it, busily stitching, even a few boys. Coordinating a dozen ten-year-olds working with needles and scissors is sometimes a little stressful, but their joy when they manage to finish a pattern is more than worth of the effort.
