A (mostly) wasted day
Feb. 23rd, 2023 06:16 pmNot how I had planned to spend my time today. But, as you know, the best laid plans of meeces and men (winks at
badly_knitted) can go astray. And they certainly did today.
It started off with a food run, which went without problems. But then I got "shore leave", meaning that I actually left the house for my own purposes, namely visiting a few craft shops that are not in close vicinity. Since I'm working on those baby books, I thought paying Rayher a visit and look up some scrapbook paper that has the right patterns would be a good idea. And since I was in that neighbourhood anyway, I decided to drop in to the Müller drugstore (also known of its broad-scale offer of craft supplies, especially paper) and a third craft shop called Hobby Artisans (or the Hungarian equivalent of it), as well as a small stationer's shop where I always buy the double-sided tape.
Well... Rayher didn't have any papers that would be even marginally suited for baby books. They usually have an extremely large variety of scrapbook papers; the best in town, in my experience. Today, half of their paper shelves were empty. I hope it doesn't mean they are planning to close because I still haven't managed the high art of internet shopping, and it's unlikely I ever will without help. Which I do not have.
Disappointed and a bit angry (I haven't found anything suitable at Hobby Artisans, either), I aimed for the small stationer's to at least buy my double-sided tape, which I seriously needed. Tedi only has it in 0.5cm width, and I needed the 2cm version. Well... the small stationer's shop isn't anymore. Either I'm a total idiot and didn't find it, or they've closed somewhen since last December. Joy, joy, joy - NOT!
I still had the Müller drugstore to check out, and as always, they had a very broad variety of craft papers - just nothing that I could use for my baby books. So, that saved me a lot of money, but I was still not better off paper-wise than at the beginning. Grrrr!
By then, it was 2pm already, and I had to walk from one shop to another, because they are so placed that taking the tram wouldn't have helped. My feet were killing me, and let me tell you, I wasn't a happy camper. So I decided to go home, with a stop at ALDI on my way, to pick up some groceries I didn't find at LIDL in the morning.
For that, I had to take a bus, than change into the tram, and traffic was simply abysmal all day. At 2.30pm I finally arrived at ALDI, and in my despair bought one paper pad that I already had but used up the most baby-suited sheets from it. And I bought a textile shopping bag - a pale baby pink one! - because I felt I needed a treat and they no longer have their coffee slot machine or whatever it is called. I used to have such a shopping bag while still working but it's gone the way of all living things because I liked it so much. Now I have a new one, therefore my day wasn't completely wasted.
Needless to say that I was in no shape for any crafting to be done. Fortunately, Mum had volunteered to cook in advance (which is why I had to start the day at LIDl - we hadn't had any Vienna sausages at home, which she cuts in slices for the potato goulash), so I was spared the kitchen duty. I watched some telly, did some crossword puzzles and am not planning to do much more for the rest of the day.

Date: 2023-02-23 06:04 pm (UTC)I wish you lived nearby so I could show you how to shop on the internet. It's so, so easy and gives you much better opportunity to compare quality and prices.

Date: 2023-02-23 06:23 pm (UTC)That would be grand. I'm not totally internet incompetent — after all, I used to immatriculate whole school classes online — but I need someone to actually show me how to do things (written instructions too often don't reach my handful of functioning brain cells); and to look me over the shoulder a couple of times while I'm doing it. That's what my boss woman did with the first three or four kids; afterwards I did three entire classes on my own. But I'm too uncertain to try something on my own. Stupid, I know.
