I've decided to re-watch the entire Miss Marple series featuring Joan Hickson, re-reading each novel every respective episode is based on. I find that I'm enjoying myself more than I'd have expected.

Progress so far:
- A Murder is Announced
- The Moving Finger
- The Body in the Library
- A Pocket full of Rye

Next up: The Murder at the Vicarage

I'm also in the process or reading some Miss Marple fanfic on AO3; unfortunately, very few of them are really appealing. I might give the Pit of Voles a try, too.

Speaking of which: does anyone know a good source for Miss Marple icons?

I've just watched two different versions of it; tomorrow I'll start re-reading the book!

I've decided against it, since I almost know that book by heart. Moving on to "Sleeping Murder" instead.

I recommend the old one with Joan Hickson. It's fairly close to the books, and the actress is fantastic.

I think Joan Hickson's Marple is the one that I feel is closest to the books. I love her shrewd take on the lady.

Oh, I completely agree. And she has great dignity, too. The other versions are either silly old hags or way too young for the part.

I watched that series many years ago! My husband and I were newlyweds and watched them together. I have very fond memories of them from that context, of course, but I also remember that they were quite good. I think "Sleeping Murder" was my favorite, but I enjoyed them all.

I went to see a stage version of "Murder at the Vicarage" once with my mother. When I was in the ladies' room during the intermission, I heard two ladies talking who knew NOTHING about Miss Marple. One of them said, "Who do you think did it?" and the other one said, "I suspect that little old lady. She asks FAR too many questions!" I almost laughed out loud! Mom thought it was funny, too, when I told her.

Well, I'm sure no-one would figure it out if she were the one doing it...
