Today I was on the 2nd practice with the new choir, and I still like it. I still wish there were at least a few of them closer to my age than Mum's, but other than that, it's a nice bunch. They even sang me a song - belatedly - for my birthday, and I'm the greenest newbie! G. the choir leader, apparently cares very much for team-building, and since the ladies (and few gentlemen) do have the time, nothing is hurried. It is very different from my main choir, where we're always full of stress - even though we might be a tad more professional.

Anyway, it appears to be a very active bunch. We'll have three different gigs in the next 30 or so days, and the repertoire is fairly rich. I've spent the last hour and half with printing out note sheets; I've got a lot to catch up with. But I don't mind. Singen beflügelt die Seele, as the Germans would say (sorry, no idea how to say it in English), and the fact that I have another chance to exercise my vocal cords is a bonus. Of course, I've realized that my voice seems to recover a bit since I don't have to yell at the school yard by any weather...

I've also decided to do something for my poor, tortured joints, aka to lose some weight. A former colleague of mine suggested the short-time fasting method, with which she's lost 21 kgs since April - not a small feat. Basically, you don't eat anything 16 hours long each day; in the remaining 8 hours you can eat what you want. I've started last night. I stop eating at 1900 - which is not so bad, even though I'm up till midnight or longer, as a rule. Since I usually get up around 08:00, that means I've already managed most of the fasting time by then, and holding out until 11:00 hopefully won't be so hard.

Other than that, I've continued planning out the "Doll House" quiet book for Lena, finished Chapter 33 of Kansas 2 and started Chapter 34 and solved half a dozen crossword puzzles in German. I think I can call it a well-spent day.

But you're allowed to drink during fasting, right?

I drink a bit more of water than I usually do, but not overly so. Actually, the first day wasn't bad at all. I was too busy to think about the whole thing. *g*

Thanks, I'll need it. I'm not very consistent (?) with that kind of thing. But the fact that I can actually eat whatever I want helps. My main problem with the other diets was that I wasn't allowed to eat anything I like and was instructed to eat things I hate.

Good luck with your diet!

The new choir sounds fun. That does sound like a lot of catching up but fortunately that's more doable now that you're not working

Nobody else does, either, which makes the atmosphere much more relaxed than in my main choir. This is called The Újbuda Silver Choir, BTW, presumably because the average age is 200 years. *g*

I think I'm going to try that fasting method. Can you drink anything other that water while fasting. Idk how I can go without my constant coffee!

I'm not sure. I decided to only drink water, just to be sure. Apparently, your body needs at least 16 hours without any foodstuffs to start tapping into its fat reserves.

As for coffee, if it isn't instant with God knows what in it, perhaps you can drink it, as long as you take it entirely black. I usually take one sweetener pill and a drop of milk with it, so I've given it up entirely - until the 16 hours are gone, that is. I thought I'd be useless in the morning without it, but for today I haven't noticed any difference. Perhaps because I do get my daily dosis of caffeine, just ad a different time. We'll see how things develop. It's very early times yet.

Make yourself a smoothie or juiced veggie to drink throughout day. Hydrate high quality H20 and plenty of sleep
Best luck on your diet

What sort of things do they sing for?

The first event will be a friendly choir competition. Then we'll have an Advent concert in one of the evangelical churches, together with a choir from another town. Then we'll have a Christmas concert in a Greek Catholic church, where the grandkids of many choir members will participate, too. And finally, we'll have a little get-together with the children's choir of our school, with singing and cake. ;) I'm sure the kiddies will be enthusiastic, especially ad they will be able to skip school for that event.

I sang in the choir and singing ensembles for six years when I was young. When I moved away to college I stopped. I loved singing in a group. So much fun, and it just feels good to sing. Good luck in your singing endeavors!

Also, good luck with the fasting method for weight loss. I've read a few articles about that recently. If you can stand the change to your eating schedule/habits, it should bring you good results!

Let's hope so. I've been at it for five days and today was the first day I was a bit hungry. It wasn't too bad, though, so I'll try to stick to it.

As for singing, I enjoy it very much, too. And in a group with other retirees I don't need to worry about not being able to keep up. Or so I hope.
