If you want to know how the elephant can be fed, take a look at the original by Sviatlana Balybina.

And this is my version:

Mine doesn't have a squeaky ear because I couldn't get such a squeaking thingy anywhere. So I cut a shoulder padding I had taken out of a t-shirt (because my shoulders are wide enough without any artificial help and paddings make me look like the Magilla gorilla) in half and made the ear out of it. It already had a lining, so I saved myself a lot of complicated work. *g*

The elephant can be fed the same way as the original, BTW, even though the zipper is sewn on by hand. The D on his food basket indicates that his name is Dumbo. Oh, and the yellow strip on the right side is just a temporary solution. The whole page will be seamed with light blue ribbon, eventually. As soon as I figure out how to use my birthday present. ;))

I'm a bit pissed that the base cloth got somewhat waved due to my sewing, but it wasn't felt this time, just cotton and didn't have enough resistance, even with a layer of filling ironed on. *sigh*

Ebay for squeaky things. However, I'm not sure you can buy them individually. I only know this because I bought a bag of them for Maman to patch up the broken squeaks of the Soss's toys. He bites through them quite quickly, (and rips holes in his toys) so she re-stuffs them with multiple squeaks and sews them up. Happy Sausage!

Ingenious use for shoulder pads!

Thanks! Ebay would require online shopping, though, which I've never done; I'm too much of a coward, and I suspect that with our miserable, worthless national currency everything would be impossibly expensive for me, even if I could do it from here.

The baby's parents will probably be thankful for non squeaky!

Well, Theo isn't exactly a baby anymore - he's just turned four two days ago. But you might be right, since the squeaking would wake up Baby Emma, and that won't be a good thing. *g*

He's cute! Have you considered tacking your base fabric to a larger piece of backing fabric and stretching it all in an embroidery hoop as you work? The extra fabric need only be cheap and will (a) make your page sturdier and (b) the excess can be cut away once you've finished the page.

I don't have an embroidery hoop, I 'm afraid. I always hated embroidery, unless it was done on paper. But most of my pages have a fairly hard felt base anyway. Still. It is a good idea that I will consider for the future. Thank you!

I have a fondness for elephants ( even have a small collection) and love yours! I grew up on Babar books, so guess that is what started it. Babar, Celeste, and the old lady = fond memories. My aunt and uncle brought me back a carved wooden elephant stool from Thailand, which I cherish. It is supposed to bring the household good luck. Your elephant is adorable.

I'd love to see your elephant stool. Could you perhaps put up a picture in your LJ?
