Tomorrow we're going to have guests - my oldest cousin and his wife are coming to celebrate (rather belatedly) Mum's 87th birthday. None of the other relatives gave a shit, so - in a sudden bout of self-destructive behaviour - I decided to give Mary Berry's apricot frangipane tart a try.

This is the original:

I won't bore you with a description of the struggle that the dratted tart cost me. As it is, I'm fairly proud that I've managed to get it together at all; it's a great deal more complicated than one would believe after reading the recipe... or watching Mary Berry making it in the Master Course of the GBBO.

So, here is my version of the apricot frangipane tart (slightly boosted via a picture processing programme):

And here is the same through the chrome filter:

I hope the pastry isn't quite as hard as it looks; this blind baking thing really isn't what's said to be. I'll never do it again. I'll rather have the bottom of the cake soaked a little than needing a sledgehammer to cut it. *sigh*

Well - the juice from the fruit should soften the pastry until tomorrow ...

Theoretically, yes, but there's a handsome layer of baked frangipane cream and a layer of apricot jam between the two, so... (Ich hoffe mein Cousin hat gute dritte Zähne.)

I hope it will taste delicious, too. *fingers crossed*
It is always a risk to make something you never tried before for visitors.

It looks beautiful. I'm a cheater when it comes to cooking and would have bought a ready made flan case.

Interesting. Another UK/US difference. I love finding the differences. A flan case is the flan base, cooked and ready to fill with whatever you want. My cooking needs all the ready made help it can get. ;) Not sure whether this link will be open to view out of the UK but...https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/294224274

Not so much of an UK/US difference than the fact that I am not a native English speaker. :)
Thanks for the explanation.

Edited cause the autocorrect is an idiot.
