Tomorrow we're going to have guests - my oldest cousin and his wife are coming to celebrate (rather belatedly) Mum's 87th birthday. None of the other relatives gave a shit, so - in a sudden bout of self-destructive behaviour - I decided to give Mary Berry's apricot frangipane tart a try.

I won't bore you with a description of the struggle that the dratted tart cost me. As it is, I'm fairly proud that I've managed to get it together at all; it's a great deal more complicated than one would believe after reading the recipe... or watching Mary Berry making it in the Master Course of the GBBO.

So, here is my version of the apricot frangipane tart (slightly boosted via a picture processing programme):

I hope the pastry isn't quite as hard as it looks; this blind baking thing really isn't what's said to be. I'll never do it again. I'll rather have the bottom of the cake soaked a little than needing a sledgehammer to cut it. *sigh*
