Yeah. The heating has been fixed, which is good, but poor Mum took a fall in the living room and managed to land on the armrest of her chair. Fortunately, it's an overstuffed armchair, so she didn't break any bones, but now she has a roughed up patch of skin on her arm. It looks almost like the burn I had on my hand a couple of years ago, just not so severe. But it's ugly enough; the fabric that's covering the armrest rubbed against her skin and there was some bleeding, too. It's begun scabbing over (is that the right word?) but I don't know what we're supposed to do with it for the night. She's a very restless sleeper and I'm afraid that she'll make things worse, even if we bandage the injury.

Never a calm day for the wicked. *sigh*

I'm glad that she didn't break anything but still, that sounds very painful! I'm sending her my best wishes.

She says it doesn't actually hurt. Es zieht nur ein bißchen - sorry, no idea how to say that in English; a good thing that you're German. But it looks really ugly.

Oh, those scrapes are painful, I've been known to do that to myself! Do you have some antibiotic ointment in the house? Here we can buy it without prescription. Thin layer of ointment and then put gauze over it to protect it. If you have rolled gauze, the kind that stretches a bit and sticks to itself, wrap it around her arm and you should be able to get away without using tape on her skin.

I hope she feels better by the morning. Of course now I have to wonder what wickedness you've been indulging in ;)

I don't know if we have such ointments here. She didn't tell me about the injury while I was hopping around the city. I carefully put some Bepanthen Plus salve around the actual injury, to encourage the edges to grow together, and she says it's already smaller than it was, although I suspect some wishful thinking here.

We do have gauze, so I'll try to use it and wrap a piece of bandage around it - and pry.

I often check the Mayo Clinic web site (it's a well known and respected Medical Center here in the US) for general health info. Here's their page on treatment for skin abrasions, (https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/treating-skin-abrasions-known-as-raspberries/) it's quite detailed.

This is what I meant by stretch gauze. (https://www.amazon.com/Medpride-Conforming-Gauze-Rolls-Yards/dp/B07JFP1HYP?th=1) It really helps in avoiding tape that can irritate the skin.

I just wanted to suggest Bepanthen ... I think the Plus is the one that is antiseptic, so that's good.

Just checked ... this is the one I've got, you should try to get this. It's really great and yo can put it on the wound.

I'll see if I can get it here. We're almost out of the Plus one anyway, although it worked well enough. I remember when I burned my hand brutally with a hot baking tin a few years ago it was suggested to me by the apothecary and I put it on the wound without a second thought and it worked. But I'm more careful with Mum than I usually am with myself.

Argh, poor mum, healing can be so slow in the elderly and the wounds often look dramatically scary. I hope it heals cleanly.

So do I, to be honest. The wound really looked scary, I nearly got a heart attack when I first saw it.

I know these things can take a long time to heal, but I'm sure you're doing a good job of looking after her. (My father was forever getting them in his falls, but it never went on to cause infection in his case.)
