First to the creative part: I baked Vanillekipferl today:

Which are little vanilla flavoured crescents, the dough of which consists of flour, sugar, almonds and margarine. After baking, they are rolled in vanilla flavoured icing sugar.

Originally, I wanted to bake tomorrow, because Mum and I planned to go to Linz (Austria) today, to visit the Christmas fair; that is one we haven't seen yet. Alas, Mum has caught some bladder problems, likely due to a cold she didn't realize she had, so she couldn't come with me, as one can't carry the loo on one's back.

Fortunately, the train ticket is valid for 3 days, and - even more fortunately - my cousin's wife, with whom I get on splendidly, was willing to come with me tomorrow. So I won't lose the money I've already paid for the tickets; only that which I've paid for the seat reservation, which is only valid for the very day and train it was bought for. So we'll have to see how we get some seats when we board the train in the morning; it is 4 hours to Linz, standing that long won't be comfortable.

In any case, I'm looking forward to a day spent with Heidi on the Christmas fairs - there are two of them in Linz, both look very promising. See for yourself:

Please send Mum good thoughts... and wish us a safe trip.

I hope you have a wonderful day in Linz, and I wish your Mom a speedy recovery. It's too bad she can't come. At least she will have very delicious-looking cookies to keep her company tomorrow.

True; I'm still sad that I have to go without her. It was supposed to be her Christmas present, after all. I'm trying to give her experience and time together in these days, and it is so annoying that this time it was torpedoed by illness. :((

I hope you will have another opportunity soon enough to take her. It's a real shame it didn't work out this time but that's how it goes :(

She has became very fragile since the time we met in Hamburg. Not in spirit, mind you, she's still every bit as adventurous as she was back then, but her health has been causing more and more problems lately. It is odd for me to watch - at the same age my grandmother was like the flourishing life itself, despite being almost blind.

I'm sorry, it must be frustrating for her that her body doesn't keep up anymore with her agile mind and desire for adventures. It's strange how even in the same family one grows old without health problems, while another struggles. Strange, and sad. I hope her health will be giving her less trouble next year.

Thank you. Mum is feeling marginally better; as for the trip, pics about it are linked to the next entry.
