My goddaughter visited us today with her little son - just turned 2 - and with her mother (just turned 62) to celebrate our birthdays with us.

I made cheesy buns and a chocolate-sour cherry wreath:

The latter looked grand with candles on and all other lights out:

Unfortunately, it turned out a bit dry for my personal taste, but that's always a risk with cakes that need to bake for an hour or so on low temperatures. My guests didn't find it too dry; but again, they are Germans, and Germans do have a fondness for drier cakes. Ah well, at least they were happy with it. And lots of whipped cream helped.

I got baking ingredients and DIY utensils from them, which is great. They always make so thoughtful gifts.

Chocolate sour-cherry with whipped cream sounds good to me :) It sounds like a wonderful party.

It was very nice. Little Theo tolerated the largely unknown grown-ups (that would be Mum and me) well enough, considering that they live outside the town and we see him way too rarely, and we laughed a lot. Looking forward to the reunion at Christmas.
