Picspam #8 - Szamos Marzipan

This picture, as you can see on the signature, isn't my own. But a report from the Chocolate Festival wouldn't be right without a pic of the amazing variety of Szamos Marzipan creatures, of which I couldn't make a good photo. The different pralines are filled with different sorts of spirits, matching the flavour of the marzipan they are made of, and you can get your personal selection in original boxes, packed on the spot.

I've never had marzipan - what's it made of?

Basically, it's almond paste and sugar with various flavours. Many people are mad for it - personally I don't like it, it's too sweet for me.

Have you ever had Mozartkugeln? They're made of marzipan, basically, of two different flavours of it, and covered with dark chocolate.

Mmmm... I'm a real marzipan fan, though I don't often like it with chocolate. As a child, I used to pick apart Christmas cake and eat the marzipan layer first (then the icing, then the cake, which as a child I didn't much like).

Then you and Mr EA should visit Budapest during Advent again. The same marzipan manufacture has its stand - similar to the one on the picture above - on the Christmas market the whole time.

I, too, would love to see you again. And Mum, too. She was a bit disappointed last time that she couldn't meet you, but I didn't know how much we would walk around the city, and her legs aren't what they used to be.

I'd love to meet your mother too! I think when we were with you, your mother was still recovering from surgery, so hopefully she is feeling rather more up to strange visitors now.

Oh, she's up and bouncing around again, thank God... well, as much as an 81-year-old can bounce. *g* And she loves to meet new people, even if she can't talk to them. She doesn't speak English. So, unless either of you can German or French, it will be grinning at each other nicely. ;)

Mr EA's mother still bounces even though she's 87, I think. I gather one of Mr EA's grandmothers was still bouncing into her 90s but I don't know if she's on the maternal side.

Mr EA lived in Germany for a couple of years just before we met, but his German is very rusty. We both have tourist French, but it's a bit thin these days. So it looks like grinning it is!
