Well, folks, it seems that LJ has decided to crash our birthday party - the original post is no longer visible. But I still have most of the comments in my inbox, and will re-post the original entry and list the available comments with the simple mentioning of the names, if it's all right with you. If not, tell me, and I'll delete yours.
We won't allow LJ to crash our party!
Original post
Hi folks! *waves*
Time is flying by, isn't it? It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 56 on October 9, which means I'd have been retired for a year already, back under the old regime. Women could retire at the age of 55 back then. So I've decided to ignore all that fantastic headway we've supposedly made towards democracy in the last two decades and have considered myself retired for the last year, blithley overlooking the fact that I'll have to work another 6 or 7 or only God knows how many years.
So, let's party! Last years virtual birthday party yielded 943 comments on 7 pages, which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN BREAK THE 1000-COMMENT-BARRIER! So, let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!
You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual cake of your choice. If you want to post your favourite recipe in a comment, be my guest. If not, just drop by and say hello.
Cheers!
Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp.
Join us and have fun! Feel free to start any thread, any topic you want; we can discuss it, mock the general stupidity of life and laugh at it.
Last count was 1328 comments on 6 pages.
NB: Shoud the original party post mysteriously reappear, I'll delete this one.

Date: 2012-10-07 01:42 pm (UTC)What was your most memorable birthday? I recall getting soaked in the
gardens of a stately home, going to the coast and visiting a bird
sanctuary.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:55 pm (UTC)16th birthday - went to my first concert

Date: 2012-10-07 01:43 pm (UTC)I had my first tutorial with my new first years (tutorial group of five:
two girls and three boys) today, on the subject of how to write lab
reports. They seem a really nice bunch, lively and contributing more than
last year's so I am really looking forward to having tutorials every
other week with them for the rest of the year. After the tutorial we went
to a department subsidised lunch. We are asked to invite all of our
tutees, but only one of my second years turned up. Still we had a very
pleasant lunch with delicious burgers at one of my favourite restaurants
near College. The first years had had a lunch event almost every day of
this their first week, so they said they were pleased to get to know one
good restaurant off-campus. My second year had a discount app for the
place, so she obviously liked it too.
Did you have a good experience today, to make you feel happy about the
end of the work week?

Date: 2012-10-07 02:28 pm (UTC)Sounds promising that you tutees are talking to you - and it sounds like you have a good system. :)
hmm.. I've spent most of the day helping with Yuletide fandom and character decisions - lots of fun; and making my lists of fandoms to request and offer - still needs some refining, but I think I will be there in time. ;)

Date: 2012-10-07 01:44 pm (UTC)I don't think we've met, but this is obviously a good cause, and I should
probably commit some sort of philanthropic act today. Based upon
anskimming prior comments, Iingenious and complex statistical analysis
decided this was in order:

Date: 2012-10-07 01:45 pm (UTC)Sooo, my goodies for the celebration are baked. I'll only have to glue
the Ischler cookies together with red currant jam and cover them with
chocolate icing tomorrow. The vanilla-almond crescents turned out very
well - which isn't almost the case. With such a simple recipe, a
surprising amount of things can go wrong. Not this time, though. So I'm
content.

Date: 2012-10-07 01:45 pm (UTC)So we've beaten the previous number of comments, but not yet the number
of pages?

Date: 2012-10-07 01:52 pm (UTC)Just to push towards a fifth page before Altariel finishes going to
bed...

Date: 2012-10-07 01:52 pm (UTC)I think we will make page 5 easily tonight.

Date: 2012-10-07 01:53 pm (UTC)We can post little side remarks as top level comments, and that way we'd
come closer to both goals. *Buliwyf icon, cause we need a strategist*

(no subject)
Date: 2012-10-07 01:55 pm (UTC)I wanted it to reach 1050 before I went to bed - it's passed that, so I'm
gone! Goodnight, all, sweet dreams!

Date: 2012-10-07 01:56 pm (UTC)Ladies, you are absolutely amazing! But it's really late, so I say let's
call it a day. Grab some cake for the night, and we'll see each other in
renewed vigour tomorrow (actually, it already *is* tomorrow over here,
but let's not be bothered by semantics).
(no subject)
Date: 2012-10-07 01:56 pm (UTC)We have now passed 1100 comments, so and it is past midnight here as
well, so I think I will head off to bed as well! Looking forward to more
party tomorrow!

Date: 2012-10-07 01:57 pm (UTC)And we've just clicked past 1100! I don't know whether it was Jenn or me!
