I've missed the nomination window of the MEFAs. Granted, I haven't written any new Tolkienfic for oh, two years or so? But I tend to have my old stuff nominated, just to be remembered in the fandom until I can pick up writing for it again. Well, I've missed the opportunity this year, and nobody in the yahoo groups where I'm semi-present posted a reminder. Too bad, but it can't be helped now.

Reading Torchwood fic on FF.Net is increasingly nauseating. Save from a few heroes like milady_dragon or aviv_b, the Gwack is rising; and so is Miracle Whip related drivel. And I can't even help even out things - the stuff I write is at the moment strictly episode-related AU, with a lot of original dialogue rewritten and used differently. It would be still enough for some idiot to report me and have my account yanked. I can't risk that. So I can't post my stuff to the Pit of Voles. Well, at least I don't get flames this way, either.

I'm so frigging depressed it isn't even funny. It's strange how little it takes to reach that stage in these days.

*hugs*
I don't know much about Torchwood fandom, having given up on it mostly a few year ago - got tired of the stories all being the same (mostly porn and if there was any plot it mostly seemed to involve bashing of whichever characters the author didn't like - mostly it was totally out of character) - of course, I exempt your stories from this because they work and the characterisations make sense! (As an aside, finally got round to reading Everything Changes today - comment is part typed but (I got distracted by things that needed doing today) I have notes on paper of the things I want to say, but have to get it typed in, hopefully I'll get that finished this evening.
I haven't seen any of the new series yet except trailers, but from what I've seen I'm not surprised if it producing tones of bad fic.
*many hugs* Depression is so hard to deal with. Hope you feel better soon

You actually made *notes*? You're amazing! :)
Be careful with your hands, though, don't overstress them in my behalf. It's delightful enough to know that you liked the story.

Forgot to add: TW fanfic contains a great lot of mindless porn indeed. As much as I generally like Jack/Ianto *points at icon*, I only read a few selected authors in these days, and generally avoid anything rated above T most of the time. I haven't got any problems with slash, you know that - hell, I *write* the stuff - but there are only that many times that I can read how Jack and Ianto are getting at it before falling asleep. And that's the pairing I actually *ship*!

I realised that if I wanted to write good comments for long stories I had to make notes - otherwise I get to the end and can't remember specific things that I enjoyed (brain fog is such fun!).
My hands seems to be doing fine at the moment - not fully better, but not painful, just clumsier than before the problems started - so I'm trying to carefully do a lot more typing and writing (I have a nice ergonomic pen so it is easy to write - although reading it afterwards it harder ;)

Yes - I like reading Jack/Ianto as well - but I much prefer stories where the characters are in character and well, I generally prefer stories with plot, not that I have anything against porn and certainly end up reading quite a bit of it. ;)

Yeah, me, too. But I prefer it to come wrapped into an enjoyable story.

Be careful with your hands!

Exactly! :D

*hugs*

My brain seems to be more of a problem than my hands at them moment (though I'm being careful of them), looking back at my comment on your story last night - it really doesn't seem coherent, at the time I didn't realise how much it jumped all over the place especially in terms of grammar etc, I hope you can understand it. :)

Oh, don't worry, if I can understand my own English, I can understand anything. ;)

Your coffee icon is lovely. I've downloaded a few lately, following the lead of [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict, but they aren't half as pretty as yours. So I give you the coffee boy instead.

cool. :)

It is very shiny. Snagged it from someone's icon journal ages ago, because it was so nice.

btw, I was downloading A Big, Fat Torchwood Wedding to read later (not allowed to read more today until I've finished typing up the corrections to my b5 story - that really needs a title) and noticed that the links to the chapters from the index page on dreamwidth point to insane journal. I don't know if this was deliberate or an oversight so I thought I'd point it out to you. :)

Oh. Sorry. That's because I simply imported my Insane Journal to Dreamwith in a single batch and couldn't bring up the strength to re-link the individual chapters. But they're in one row, so if you simply click Next Entry you'll get the story in the right order - or so I hope. ;)

Not a problem, I just wasn't sure you know. :)
I think I've got it all, and am enjoying reading it - although I haven't got very far yet - as I have been trying to get things done. :)

hang in there i have a feeling that the mw trend will not last much longer if the ratings continue to slip. i admit a bit of smut and a decent bash are favorites but a well crafted story with plot is and always will be my first choice. with you i know writing is a labor of love and it shows in your stories.

Thanks. It's my firm belief that a bit of smut and a decent bash can fir into a well crafted story just fine. Too bad that most people don't even make the effort. Fortunately, we have a handful of excellent AGA writers.

Good news is that there is not too much oh LJ (yet) and think it will be even more of a flash in the pan than CoE. And thanks for the 'nod' coming from you (oh great and wonderful writer) that is high praise indeed.

I love your stuff. I know I'm a lousy reviewer and feel guilty about it all the time, but I barely manage to do some reading, even. *ducks* But I do read, I swear. It's such a relief every time I saw an update from you or from the two or three other ones. Even most of the Janto stories are so superficial most of the time.

*hugs* I heard there's a good audio drama with Ianto in it and a more proper goodbye. Maybe that'd help?

Yes, I know, I listened to it on YouTube. But I still refuse to accept anything beyond Season as Torchwood. After all that canon and character rape the Rustoid committed in CoE, it's a completely different show no. One in which I no longer have any interest.

Why not do some reading and reviewing at MEFA as a way of being part of it?

I know it is stupid with life's uncertainties, but I'm already thinking of some of my stories that I wrote to late for this year and hoping they will be nominated for next time!

I'm not active in the MEFA's myself. Had a really unpleasant fallout with the founder right at the beginning, got booted out as a moderator and that was that. My stuff got nominated by friends, but that's about what my involvement has been.

There are lots of unfinished stuff I should be finishing, plus one new project in the planning (the Umbar story, to which I've posted all that background info to [livejournal.com profile] edhellondawards, but I'm too busily involved with other fandoms at the moment. Two stories, "Vox Angelica" and "A Big, Fat Torchwood Wedding", are just a chapter or two from being finally finished, and I didn't have the time to look out for the MEFAs this year.

Usually, someone posts an alert to the SoA group - I wonder why it didn't happen this year.

The SOA Group doesn't seem to be active nowadays. I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience with MEFA.

Good luck with your projects.

Yes, which is strange, considering how active the archive is.

Thanks for the good wishes. I dream about returning to Tolkienfic one day, but right now, I seriously lack inspiration. That's why I regret having missed the nomination window. I always get some nice reviews, which are, well, inspiring. ;)

Wah... Sorry you missed MEFAs. I'm so out of touch with fandom as to be pretty much useless right now. Sorry: RL writing demands are leaving me fried. Please do post somewhere safe: I may be clueless about Torchwood, but it seems to have a big following, so there must be potential readers out there, yes?
