Watched the Firefly episode "Bushwhacked" on Saturday night. Still am not very impressed, but at least this time we got something vaguely sci-fi. I decided I like the blond pilot (Zoe's hubby) best.

I also watched the movie "Starship Troopers 2" last night. Gah, was it abysmally bad! I knew what the outcome would be within the first 20 minutes, and after that, watching the low-budget troopers fight low-budget CGI bugs in dark corridors just wasn't interesting. I mean, the first movie was so incredibly stupid it almost made it charming, and at least they had some likeable characters and pretty CGI. Not to mention the beautiful spaceship. This? Was crap. I want those two hours of my life back. Especially as they showed the film starting 23.05.

I've updated "A Touch of the Wild", my Criminal Minds/Pathways crossover. It's posted to both FF.Net and [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms. Has lots of Spencer Reid and lots of vampires, if you're interested in that kind of stuff.

Mum continues doing reasonable well. She still rests a lot, which is necessary, but is getting more and more active. We're very worried about our old doctor, who goes to the same clinic today because of a tumor on his pancreas, which might or might not be operable. We've visited him last week during one of our short walks (he lives in the next street) and hope he will turn out okay, too. Beyond 80, you just can't be sure. Ah, well.

Good to hear your mother is becoming more active. :-)

>>We're very worried about our old doctor<<
Your old doctor, is he the one who came to visit your mother in hospital? Sounds like a nice man.

Yep, the same one. He really is a nice man. I hope he comes through, too. I think seeing how well Mum took the whole thing gave him hope.

I haven't watched Starship Troopers 2, but for 1 my advice is to just watch it from the perspective of a parody. That improves the movie immensely. XD

Yeah, I know. I laughed myself silly while watching it. At least it was (involuntarily) funny and in places pretty. The sequel is neither.

I think it's hilarious that when you read discussions on Starship Troopers, there's always disagreement about whether it's a spoof or not. Dunno if it's a good or a bad thing for the movie that even fans aren't sure XD

Whoops, clicked "send" before I was done!

I'm glad that your Mum is getting more active. I guess it just takes a while for her to recover after that horrible ordeal she's been through. Hope your old doctor will be okay! Is he the one you invited for dinner a while ago?

Yes, he is. Such a shame for a likeable person like him.

Glad your mum is doing well, and good wishes for your doctor; it's clear how you both value his friendship.

I can't remember what comes after 'Bushwhacked', but I think the episodes definitely get stronger as they go on.

Well, that's certainly a relief.

According to Wikipedia, the next episode is "Shinding", in which Malcolm has to fight a duel with a sword... bye-bye, sci-fi concepts again. *sighs*

I'm delighted to hear Mum continues to mend... and so sorry about your beloved doctor's condition. He seems like a fine friend and a kind soul. Here's hoping his own prognosis will be a good one.

Sadly, it isn't. We called him in the hospital today - the operation wa scheduled for the day before yesterday - and he told us that they cut him open, took a good, hard look... then sewed the wound again. There was nothing they could do, apparently.

I'm going to visit him on Monday - don't want to interfere with the family - but there's nothing I could really do or say.

so sorry

I'm sorry to hear the sad news. You are very kind to be visiting. And I wouldn't worry: it isn't that there is any "right" thing to say or do, it's just the support of being there. You making time to visit tells him how important he is to you and Mum. And if he's feeling like talking or wants some distraction, you are someone with whom he has shared many good times, so you will be able to remember with him some of those delightful visits: what you all said, did, ate, drank and so on. Remembering happy times in the past often eases the fear and sadness about the future. He sounds like a man who has lived a full and kind life, and you, as a natural storyteller, are just the person to help him tell his tales. I hope you can both enjoy whatever time remains to him. [warm hugs]

I did visit him today, and we actually had a good time. Talked about school, travelling, TV and things like that. Laughed a lot. He looks surprisingly well for someone in his state, even though a bit fragile. I'll visit on Thursday again. If they truly let him go home on the weekend, it'll be even better. He lives in the next street, and then Mum can visit him, too.

It's so nice to hear Mum is continuing to improve. As for your poor sick old Doctor, visiting him is great, it will give some support which he doubt badly needs. Fingers crossed for him too!

Things don't look good for the old doctor, alas. They couldn't even operate on him properly... things have already gone too far, it seems. :(

:( That's no good, poor Doc! All you can do is visit, and try to make the last part of his life happy then.

Yeah, I know. He seems to be happy whenever I visit, but it's a sad thought that we probably won't have him with us much longer. :(
