Wishlist update
May. 7th, 2009 01:58 pmSooo... I've just read through this post, to see how we're doing on the acquiring front, and I must say, it's not bad.
I still haven't found the four Babylon 5 episodes I'm missing... it's really annoying. I could have bought the entire Season 5 on DVD in Vienna, but really, I already have the other 18 eps on vide (and bought it for lotsa money honestly, not pirate copies or whatnot), so I wasn't willing to throw out even more money, just to get those four. Videotapes don't seem to exist anymore, so I really don't know what to do.
I managed, however, to get the first season of Andromeda. It's a German edition, and a really idiotic one - it takes forever till you get the settings right, and have to start anew with each new episode. Also, I don't seem to be able to switch from German to English in one particular episode - either the DVD is faulty or I'm an idiot; which things aren't mutually exclusive, of course. But at least I now have Season 1 in one piece.
I'm still looking for Sesons 2-4 of Earth: Final Conflict. Even Amazon seems only to have them in Region 1 format - not that I could order from Amazon from here; not that I'd know it, that is. But it's still stupid that they won't make the series accessible anywhere outside the States. Don't they want more money? Idiots.
Still looking for the Alien Nation TV-series, too. Such a lovely show, it's a shame it only lasted one season. Although the TV-movies aren't bad.
Newcomers to the wishlist are Season 2 of Torchwood and all those Dr. Who episodes that feature either Jack Harkness or Toshiko Sato. As I mentioned before, I could have bought the entire series with Christopher Eccleston in Vienna but wasn't willing to spend all that money to have two or three Jack appearances. Dr. Who just doesn't do it to me, sorry. But the background eps for Torchwood would be nice.
Yes, I know I'm a hopeless nerd. But my fandoms are what makes me forget the unpleasantries of Real Life - and it's still a lot cheapter than psychotherapy. *g*
Oh, and by the way: I started watching "Red Dwarf" today - also courtesy of
the_wild_iris. I was laughing so hard that tears were falling from my eyes. Usually I'm not fond of comedy series with that artificial background laughter, but not even that could spoil my fun. Last time I laughed so much was when Mum and I were watching "On the Bus". I was about ten or twelve at that time.

Date: 2009-05-07 09:55 pm (UTC)I think the laughter track is real - the series was filmed in front of a live audience, and it's the audience laughing.

Date: 2009-05-08 06:43 pm (UTC)I've got my entire Star Trek collection (four entire shows, minus half of Voyager's last season and all the movies) on videotape, too. I periodically remind myself that I should have them burned to DVD - they're official copies, bought for good money honestly, after all, and it would be a shame if they got ruined by the VCR. But I don't know anyone who can do it for me, and I just don't have the cash to hire a professional for the job. *sighs*

And the Cat is incredible. Licking his laundry clear...
*rolls on the floor laughing* The cat books, with scent marks instead of text were great, too.

I hadn't even thought of that!
Ew, and now I have...

Date: 2009-05-10 05:59 pm (UTC)Actually, I think what keeps Red Dwarf going are the excellent actors. The one who plays Lister has a cadence in his voice that would make me screak with laughter even if I didn't understand a word of what I was hearing. And the facial expressions of the other one... priceless. Simply priceless. And have I already mentoned the Cat?
To be honest, Holly is a howler, too. His voice alone would make the show worth watching.
