Yeah, well, I'm rather sad about the LOTR-section of ff.net. I'm a Third Age person, mostly, and it's almost impossible to gain new readers as most serious ones flee the whole section because of all that crap.

I feel sad about the ff.net LOTR section, too. And I feel sorry for the new readers who go there, read a few of the truly atrocious stories, and go away thinking that all fanfiction is garbage - all because they never stumble over one of the few good fics posted there.

Our stories won't go anywhere... unless, of course, somebody reports us because of the capital offenses of good writing and the lack of OOC-ness.

Which, knowing ff.net, is always a possibility! Thank goodness for the other Tolkien archives out there (such as Edhelond, and the Hidden Archives)!

For my part I still believe it strongly that it's still possible to write good LOTR-fic... even though nobody else but my closest friends will find it. Ever.

Of course it's possible. And I suspect your readership is wider than you appreciate.

On the other hand, I think getting nestled in your new home is more important than any other thing you might be doing, right now.

I'm hoping that by the beginning of next week, I'll have things more-or-less under control (at least as far as unpacking and settleing in is concerned), and I'll have more time again for fandom-related activities.
