By ordering my book-case, I found my notebook with the glossary of feudal and castle terms. As I've just finished Life in a Medieval Castle by Joseph and Frances Gies (yes, after barely more than a year, I actually did), I added the glossary from the end of that book, and now I have a nice collection of old-fashioned words. It might prove useful one day.
Also, I gathered my strength to finally go through Life in a Medieval Village, by the same authors - another half-read book, very interesting, but not an easy read, as it is essentially a background source, not a novel.
Other books waiting to be read:
1. Nicholas Nickleby by Dickens - I read it in Hungarian repeatedly, and loved it, but the English original isn't an easy piece;
2. The Black Arrow by Stevenson - also quite the challenge language-wise, but I want to read it before I'd actually watch the TV-version, which I've recorded months ago;
3. Eldest by Christopher Paolini - I liked Eragon, the first part of the trilogy, but the sequel is just too big and heavy;
4. The Mabinogion by Evangeline Walton - a book that I've been saving for a special stretch of time for quite a while by now;
5. The entire Narnia-collection - I read some parts in German and liked it, but I just don't feel up to start something that long right now, although I've had the book since last autumn or so;
6. The modern fairy tale collection titled Tales Before Tolkien, which I've bought some time ago and laid aside right on the spot;
7. Various parts of the Prydain Chronicles that have been waiting for me patiently, courtesy of the most generous
the_wild_iris;
8. Assorted Deeps Space Nine novels, some of which have been lying around for years;
9. Roverandom by Tolkien, which is probably the shortest novel he wrote and I still haven't managed to get to it...
I could go on for a while yet, but I thing you get the picture: I buy too many books and have too little time to read. Of course, if I would read them instead of reading fanfic, I'd get through them a lot faster, but I'm not the woman for the quick and easy solutions. *g*
Anyway, I need to start taking books with me to school again, reading in the bus and in the hours between lessons. That's helped me through quite a few books in the past.
