Allrighty, the heat is so oppressive here that my brain cells can't recover, so I take refuge by pleasant memories. *g*

On our second day, we were to meet [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 around 10 a.m. - which we did. It was a warm and bright day, but as there always is a little breeze, one could take it better than at home, for example.

We walked a lot on this day - again. Declared the AMT coffee shop in the Lion Yard shopping centre as our basis for refreshments, because it was such a nice place to sit. We went there all the time on the following days.

Among all the attractions that we saw on our second day, King's College was definitely the most impressive. I love that sort of architecture anyway, the Brits are lucky that baroque style hadn't found its way across the Channel, so they could keep the clear, fine lines in their buildings. By us, everything is over-decorated and way too bombastic. But I digress...

Anyway, between repeated bouts of staring at wondrous buildings with open mouth, we also did some book-shopping. [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 introduced me to Borders, a strange but appealing mix of bookshop, video and DVD shop, coffee shop and stationary. We parked Mum on a sofa, next to an old gentleman who decided to walk around barefooted because of the heat, and went looking for treasures.

And boy, treasures they had! I actually found The 13th Warrior on DVD, as well as the latest B5 movie, The Legend of the Rangers, of which I'll post a review to the Otherworlds board eventually, plus two Star Trek - DS9 books that caught my eye.

Alas, the boxed edition of Andromeda's 2nd season hasn't come out yet, nor did they have the box ed from Stargate SG1's 7th season. I still lack that one, and stupid Amazon still doesn't accept my money. Ah, well, perhaps through the English videothek...

We ate baked potatoes in Aunt's Tea House, which were very good. When I go to a foreign country, I always try to eat something that's typical for that country. It doesn't make much sense to have pizza in England - or in Vienna, for that matter. But you do need someone local to show you the places where you get the local food. All right, in Vienna we already count as locals, but... *g*

After lunch we walked some more among the wonderful colleges. [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 had her digital camera and made lots of pictures for me, since I don't own one - yet. She also promised to label the pics for me, so that I'd know what I'm staring at nostalgically, which will be a great help. We've seen soo many beautiful places, it's hard to keep them apart by memory only.

As we intended to go to London on the next day, we walked back to our B&B around 6 p.m. Mum went up to our room and watched football, while [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 and my not-so-humble self were sitting on the bench in front of the B&B and chatted some more, discussing one shared fandom after another. It was a delightful evening.

Later we walked over to the railway station to look up the trains to London and eventually buy the tickets. But it turned out that the possibilities were so varied that I didn't dare to actually buy them without consulting Mum first. So we walked around a bit, then [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 went home, and I climbed up to our room.

As it turned out, it was a lucky decision. Mum had changed her mind in the meantime and decided that she didn't want to go to London, after all. Which surprised me, and I tried to talk her out of it, but once she'd made up her mind, it was no use arguing.

More later.

Sounds like you have a great time. For my part I have had a bit of trouble, my hard disc crashed and I lost my link to Otherworlds. I lost other links as well and have to restore them. *sigh*

I offered you to keep a back-up link folder in the Teleki Blanka group's Links section. That helps me often.

That is true, and I should have done that. Well, one always learns things.

Well, it's still not too late...
Check out the Links sections of Teleki Blanka as well as the old Edhellond group. It might be that they contain some of your lost links.

You had never seen a Borders before? You can't take five steps without running into one here. Needless to say, that's one of my favorite places to get into trouble!

No, never. Austria has Libro, which is similar, only without the coffee shop, and we have Libri, which is also similar, only without the stationary, but with an Internet café. But neither has that incredible selection in books or vids or DVDs as Borders in Cambridge has. Not to mention, of course, how hard it is to find English books of my interest over here.

So now you have even more reason to want to return to Cambridge!

Well, that would require swimming across the Channel, as I'm not gonna set foot on a frigging plane ever again. *g*
