Advent 2024 - Day 9
Dec. 9th, 2024 08:43 pmI've finished decorating my last batch of cookies, the ginger hearts (I'll try to take a photo tomorrow, before boxing them). I confess that I've simplified a bit the filling (simply glued together two of them with molten chocolate instead of some complicated... stuff with orange marmalade, which I made last year and don't intend to use for baking purposes). Instead of candied ginger, I decorated them with the results of my failed lemon jam; the one that ended up as candied lemon peel in extremely thick syrup instead. I think the taste improved through this greatly, but that's just my opinion. I love ginger, but that would have been a mite too much.
Progressing backwards, I hit the Savoy Park shopping centre in the late morning. Having done my commissions at the pharmacy and the postal office (Mum supports about a dozen charities and I offered to have the money sent), I visited my favourite shops. Yes, the ones that sell craft supplies. There was nothing for me at Pepco, but I bought lots of small things (that I absolutely didn't need but couldn't resist) at Kik and Tedi, including a package of beautiful paper serviettes for Mum who loves them.
Then I went to the Auchan supermarket, and since Mum couldn't come with me, I took a few photos of their Christmas offerings. They always make a wonderful exposition, and this year was no exception.
Take a look for yourself!. I think for a relatively small supermarket they did a great job again.
So, the above mentioned activities just about ate my whole day. Tomorrow will be boxing the last batches of cookies, prettying up the cookie tins and sorting them by recipient. My friend Eenie (who is a jewel among women) promised me a lift to school, so I can distribute the cookie boxes before choir practice.
I must admit, I am relieved that the baking is done. I'll try to finish the last embroidered card(s) before Thursday, and perhaps the one or other cat-in-the-sack gift box, assuming I'll get more empty toilet rolls, but after that, I don't intend to do much before Christmas anymore. I am well and truly done in.
