I was baking all morning - well, up to 3pm, actually - for tomorrow's party. My apple jelly cake turned out well, so did my banana bread and the mini birthday cakes made for the two toddlers. My first attempt to make Bakewell slices failed miserably - clearly, I need a better recipe. Sadly, the one of Matt Moran from the Great Australian Bake-Off is no-where available. At least no-where where I could find it. The only link to it led to a Chinese website - even if I could get access, I wouldn't be able to read it. *sigh*

Tomorrow morning there will be cheesy buns and mini sausage rolls on the programme, and another experiment, the cranberry orange cream scones. I wonder what those will turn out like. Wish me luck.

After the baking marathon I was pretty much done in, so we ate leftover soup and two pieces of fried fish with leftover salad - very good after so much sweet stuff. My friend Evie called then and was happy about the menu. I hope we'll have a lovely party tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Sounds like a lot of baking ... pity about the Bakewell Slices, though.

Ah, well, sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you aren't. Learning experience and all that.

Can't google, if you use google, translate the site to English?

Thanks. Save for the Bakewell slices, the things turned out well enough.

I hope you find your bakewell recipe. I tried my Marguerite Patten book and came up empty.

It sounds lovely, I hope you are having a really good time as I type!

I have made Bakewell slices occasionally and use the National Trust recipe although I don't bother with the food processor, just make the pastry by hand.

Thanks, it seems easy enough indeed, especially as it uses grams and such. I've saved the recipe and might give it another try one day. I make the pastry by hand, too, since I don't even have a food processor. I'd like to have one but no place to have it ready all times, and having to dig it out of the depths of the kitchen cupboard would be just too bothersome.

I had no clue the way Matt Moran´s bakewell slice is supposed to look like, and when I found a picture, I, too, was not able to find the recipe. But there´s one which looks pretty similar to the one you were looking for- https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipes/bakewell-slice-12853 (https://www.womensweeklyfood.com.au/recipes/bakewell-slice-12853)

Thank you. I saved the recipe, although it seems a bit complicated. But who knows, I might accept the challenge one day. ;))

Actually, the scones turned out fairly well. Perhaps a bit dry — we don't have diary products with the fat percentage the recipe asked for — but yummy enough nonetheless.
