Fun with Mum's childhood friends
Three of Mum's former schoolmates visited today, some of them she hasn't seen for 54 years. All people around 72. It was a totally amazing experience. I never had so much fun with people I actually don't even know. We chatted, told jokes, exchanged old stories (I know a great deal about Mum's childhood, so it was easy to keep up with them), laughed a lot like morons, detected similar interests.
So, now I have a date with the lady Isabella on Tuesday, to show her the Tropicarium in the Campona shopping center, not far from our place. I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun again.
Starting the new story
On a different matter, I've finally finished the first chapter of the Elfhelm story. It's the one with the silly subtitle How Elfhelm Went to RhĂșn, Saved the Day and Got the Girl. I think I'll have two versions of it: one for myself and fellow geeeks, with all the Old English phrases and nefarious footnotes and an actually posted one for those who want to read a story without two academic degrees. *g*
I must admit, I've got insanely much fun with digging out all these pagan Anglo-Saxon customs and pepper the whole thing with Old English words. Maybe I'll offer ff.net readers the chance to read the real item while pointing out my website.
Yahoo group issues
I've decided to delete the Mirkwood Castle group. It lost its original spirit and all efforts to bring it back to the original path failed. I see no reason to waste time and energy on a project that doesn't give me satisfaction anymore.
As the Edhellond archive is still barely working, a decision has been made that there will be a temporary solution. A new Yahoo group, for simply posting fanfic and getting feedback. It'll be an adults only group, with restricted membership, so that we'll be able to post adult content as well.
For the record: in the eyes of the Edhellond authors that doesn't necessarily mean sex. For us, graphic violence is at least as much harmful. But it'll be a good thing to be able to post the uncut versions of our stories.
The group will probably be created at the end of August, when the future ListMom (no, that isn't me) will be back from vacation.
A new board in planning
I'm about to create a fanfic discussion board at InvisionFree. It's goal is to offer discussion forums to various fandoms in the genres of fantasy, sci-fi, horror and cop shows. Also, someone suggested to have a forum to discuss original fiction. I find that a great idea. Maybe we'll add a forum for original art as well.
So, it seems that I'll be really, really busy. But that's a good thing, because as long as I'm busy, I don't have the time to be depressed.
