And we are both relieved about it, even if we know it won't be easy. She wants to thank you all for the prayers and good wishes and asks for more - before everything else so that the bone would hold. That's the most important part right now, everything else is just practice, patience and goodwill.

I've given her the first injection while my friend Evie was watching from the distance. It went well. I'm marginally less hysterical abut the entire affair. It turns out, Evie's watched the instructional video as well, just in case I needed pointers, and Erica, another colleague of us, who also used to have to inject her mother, demonstrated it on herself (without the needle, of course), how it is done properly. I can imagine the scene in the teachers' room between lessons... *g*

The commode has also arrived shortly after Mum, and my cousin brought some adult diapers, so I hope we have things under control. The only unsolved issue is the mattress, but my cousin and his ex-wife are working on it. Hopefully, there will be a solution, soon.

In other news, I'm about to get my Covid vaccine tomorrow - the Russian one. As someone from the Richter Gedeon Institute (our leading pharmatical firm) said when the whole hysteria against Sputnik broke out: "We all grew up with Russian vaccines" - and they didn't harm us, on the contrary. All childhood vaccines came from Russia (well, the Soviet Union, in my youth), and we're still here, aren't we?

So glad your mum is home again, even though it will be hard at first as you both adjust to your new reality.

Sending thoughts and prayers for bone strength and good, steady healing. I hope the bed problem will soon be solved.

Good luck with getting vaccinated. I hope you don't have to go far to get it. Has your mother had hers?

She could have, but she didn't want to go to one of the hospitals to get it. Said she'd wait until our family doctor can vaccinate her. Tragic irony that she ended up in hospital for a much worse reason. *sigh*

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. The whole issue is now in the hand of higher powers.

I would have thought the hospital would vaccinate her while they had her there. Seems ridiculous they didn't!

There were quite a few questionable things in that hospital, unfortunately.

Plus hospital staff are all overworked right now. Bad combination.

Good to hear you managed to give your mum the injection. I guess it'll get easier every time now.

Okay, if you grow an extra set of arms or something like that, we'll know where that comes from. *lol*

Don't be ridiculous, it's Sputnik! They'll probably shoot me to the Moon or whatnot! *g*
(Admittedly, I'm still nervous, but that comes from the fact that I'm deadly afraid of needles...)

Good news! I bet you mum is chuffed to be home and sleeping in her own bed (and getting proper food) at last. Massive relief!

Well done! Now you have done that first one it won't seem so scary!

I've just read your previous post, too. I am so glad you will have the physio coming to show you what exercises to do. And being able to cook things she likes will soon help to build up her strength.

And in the meantime, I will continue to send good wishes, and remember her in my prayers.

Also — I forgot to add a quick hurrah! for you getting your vaccine. I'd be happy to have the Russian one, too.

so happy to hear your mum is home.
I don't think my childhood vaccines were from Russia but that probably depends on where somebody's childhood was spent.

True. Behind the iron curtain where I spent my youth such things always came from the Soviet Union. And they usually worked well enough, too.

Wonderful news! I thought about you all day, wondering how the injection went! So glad your friend was there to support your efforts!

Hooray for your vaccination! There does seem to be a glimpse of light at the end of this long Covid tunnel!

Sending thoughts and prayers for you and your Mum, for a smooth recovery for her.

What a horrible, scary, stressful, worried week for the two of you. I'm just so glad you have her home with you.
Although it won't be easy, you are right there with her, and you have a great network of people to help you get through it together.

Hugs and love to you!

I had also heard that the Russian vaccine was not as effective, but how much of that is media hype is difficult to tell. Like all other countries, the UK is not free of partisanship when it comes to stuff like that. I'm really happy that you managed your first injection on Mum. From my own experience, it really is surprising what you can do when you have to.

That is true. As for the vaccine, I heard of someone — and a fairly young woman at that — who got the Pfizer vaccine and ended up in the IC after the second shot, so... it always depends on the individual, I guess.

You get used to the shots after a bit and hopefully it won't go on for too long. I'm glad she's home and that you are getting your shot. Fingers crossed that things continue to do well.
