I've been watching re-runs of the Great British Bake-Off (the original one) every evening of this week and it caused in me the great desire to bake something, despite the abysmal heat. So I gave the Germguglhupf (a yeast dough wreath with candied fruits) another try. What I forgot was the fact that the eggs we buy through our school are XXL-sized. So I had to add more dry ingredients to the mix. And more dry ingredients. And even more dry ingredients. In the end, it swallowed at least 600 gr flour instead of the 400 gr required by the recipe, and due to the warm weather, the dough rose to extraordinary proportions. It grew out of the dish three times!

The result is this fairly oversized piece of baking goods:

It grew out of the baking tin, too, although it has a diameter of 26 cm! So I halved it and gave both of our neighbours a quarter of it each. Even so, we'll be eating it for at least two days; for breakfast, most likely.

It turned out extraordinary well, by the way: feather light, fluffy and very, very yummy.

That looks lovely - you can tell it is really light even in the picture.

I've had things that have 'grown' in the making like that in the past, too!

Honestly, it all but flows. Considering that I've wrestled with the dough roughly 40 minutes, I'm very pleased with the outcome.
