Last week we had tomato soup, which means new tin cans to play with. Usually, I make pencil holders, with the help of corrugated paper, felt and/or ribbons and other small embellishments. Numbers 16 and 17 were made using purple decor foam, fluffy white fabric (something synthetic, no idea what it is but this was the stuff I made the white teddy bears from), craft ribbons and the thin decorative... things [livejournal.com profile] elwenlj gifted upon me.

Cute, aren't they? The green rubber rings will be removed as soon as the glue had enough time to dry. The white stuff was in fairly small pieces, so I had to jigsaw them together on the back of the tin, but I've managed to do it so well that the lines are barely visible. Yay!

Other than that, I wrote about 3 pages for Chapter 17 of "Magic Mirror", cooked lunch (fried fish fillets with parsley potatoes and a mixed salad; we had leftover soup from yesterday), wrote e-mail to all friends whose name is Anna (it's the day of St. Anna) and gave small gifts (a cherry stone pillow, a patchwork card and some pretty paper tissues) our neighbour lady, who's also called Anna.

Mum and I rang her bell, stood in distance from the door and handed over the things in a gift bag. She loved her gifts and gave us some cake and peaches in exchange. We usually give each other from the cakes and cookies we back, and as they have a garden somewhere, we sometimes get a bit of fruit from her. Good neighbourhood is a blessing!

Fresh peaches sound lovely.

Is a name day THE big thing in Hungary or birthdays also? I know in Greece the name day is celebrated more.

We celebrate both. Birthdays are a bit more important, but for some reason certain name days are much celebrated, like Anna, Elizabeth and Katherine. There is even a traditional Anna ball in one of the towns at Lake Balaton, although I doubt they had one this year.

These pen holders are wonderful! I should try to do one to use at work!

They are really easy to make. All you need is a tin can, good glue and whatever you want to decorate it with.

Very pretty. I'm sure they will be welcomed gifts!

As things look like now, we may not even have a Christmas fair this year, so they'll become gifts indeed. *sigh*
I'd gladly give them away for free to friends and family, but I'll miss the fair, big time. I love standing at my table and sell stuff and know that the money will go to someone who needs it.

I hope you will be able to have your fair. I know how you look forward to it each year.

I suggested in half-joke to Boss Woman's deputy that we should have an online fair if the virus doesn't go to hell until Christmas. *g*

I don't think it will do that until we have a vaccine for it. Sadly...

The pencil holders are lovely. And what a nice way to celebrate St Anna's Day.

It's always been a significant day for us, as both Grandma and her mother were called Anna. Plus, that is one of Mum's given names, too, although she never used it.

Good neighbours are definitely a blessing. Your little pen pots are sweet and I'm glad the braid came in useful.

Oh, I've already used the braids for my felt Easter eggs - that are still sitting in the cupboard, as lockdown made it impossible to hand them over to the Oldies as Easter gifts. The best thing is, I always think of you when I use any of the stuff, and feel that connection between two Tolkienites and crafters, even though we never met in person. Perhaps one day...

The pencil holders are pretty, did you line the inside of the can, also? That to me, would be hard.
