What the heck?

As from this morning, a little bell has appeared on the menu bar on my Lj, right next to the post option. At first there was the number 99 at it, in a red circle. I clicked at it. The number and the red circle disappeared and I got an Unknown Error message. I keep getting it whenever I click on the little bell, but nothing else happens.

Now, I really hope it's just a glitch and not some ultimatum from LJ tha I am unable to read. I'd hate to have my account suspended for something I don't even know of.

Does anyone have a clue what it might be?

Edit: Thanks for everyone who helped to figure out the situation. For the record: I still hate it. At least while it was an option called Inbox I knew what I was dealing with. And scrolling down every comment I received in the next, oh, twenty years or so really isn't helpful.

But at least now I can stop worrying about the mysterious 99 notifications and can turn my worrying capacity towards my sore throat. I know it's just a consequence of having eaten too cold strawberries and half a banana from the fridge - it happens every time I eat or drink something cold - but in these times one panics more easily. *sigh*

It's a notification symbol, replacing the old "inbox"/"messages" sign that used to be there. I don't know why it said "99 messages" there but it did for me too.
I'm not a fan of it at all D: seems like just another occurance of LJ trying to be more like Facebook.

I guess that it gave you an error because it might not work properly yet for everyone, you know how messy LJ updates can be sometimes ;)

That I never wanted. There's a reason why I am not on Facebook. I went to my settings and uncheckedracticallyvall boxes in the so-called notifications centre in the hope that they'll leave me alone in the future. I prefer to have my notifications via e-mail, thank you very much!

Sorry, for the typos, BTW. I wrote the answer on my iPad mini and the dratted autocorrect always turns my perfectly normal words into such Kukulorus. I should have checked before posting but was a bit distracted by my anger and slight panic. *g*

As do I, particularly as I recieved bad news about a friend today. Hopefully he will be allright soon but as long as things are as they are none is safe. :)
