End of the week positivity...
Mar. 29th, 2020 07:03 pm... to borrow the tile from
sallymn. ;))
Well, the day didn't start very positively: I forgot that we were switching to daylight saving time or whatever it's called and didn't set my alarm clock accordingly. At 8:30 Mum woke me, asking if I wasn't going to watch Mass on the telly with her - it was half an hour after my intended wake-up time. Which is bad, because I need at least 50 minutes to go through my morning routine and wake up completely. Not a morning person, obviously.
Mass was a lot less enjoyable than last week; it seemed to go on and on and on, and the organist wasn't on top, either. But we valiantly stood awake during the ceremony. *g*
Afterwards, I cut out some miniature clothes for the doll house inhabitants; will have to finish them tomorrow. I just wasn't in the mood. Instead, I made this:

An apple-walnut tart, with some raisins. Quick and easy and yummy. I also cooked lunch today, so I guess I was productive enough nonetheless.
In the afternoon, I talked on the phone to three different (ex-)colleagues, which did me a wealth of good. Not meeting people at all is hard on me. I mean, I've been sitting at home a lot since my retirement, but there were three or four choir practices a week when I had similarly-minded company, and I miss that a lot.
Otherwise we still seem to be well, thank God. I hope we'll be able to continue that way.

Date: 2020-03-29 06:01 pm (UTC)I usually need about 50 minutes to get out of the house in the morning as well. Not a morning person either.

Date: 2020-03-29 07:14 pm (UTC)I'm going to rewatch the local service in the morning I think, when I feel it actually is 10.30am!

Date: 2020-03-29 07:40 pm (UTC)Ingredients:
120 gr butter or margarine (I use margarine)
120 gr sugar
170 gr flour
2 eggs
1.5 teaspoons of baking powder
1 pck (20 gr) vanilla-flavoured sugar
lemon zest as much as you like
Topping:
6-7 apples in thin slices
powdered sugar and cinnamon
How to make:
1. Pre-heat oven to 190°C; grease a 26 cm round baking tin.
2. Combine margarine and sugar until creamy.
3. Add eggs and stir until smooth (I never manage to get it really smooth, but that doesn't matter).
4. Add other ingredients and stir again until smooth (this is the phase in which it is actually possible to get the dough smooth).
5. Pour it into the baking tin, smooth the surface, cover it with the apple slices.
6. Bake for about 20 minutes, depending on your oven.
7. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon while still hot.
The one in the picture is only half a portion, and I added chopped walnuts and raisins soaked in rum to the topping, just because I wanted a different version. But you can make this tart with pears (replace cinnamon with cloves) or sour cherries (add a generous tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and some rum to the dough). I'm sure it works with other fruit sorts, too, but these are the ones I've already tried.
Have fun!
Edited cuz I'm such a klutz!

Date: 2020-03-29 07:45 pm (UTC)I hope the measurements are okay with you. I suffer greatly when trying to use American recipes with all those cups and ounces and stuff. I'm afraid I'm hopelessly European in my baking. What measurements do you use in your little corner of the world?
