Coronavirus update

So far, we officially have 19 infected people, one of them has apparently healed already. I wish I could believe it. Nonetheless, schools might be closed from Monday on, which will lead to its own problems, starting with: where to put the kids? Especially the youngest ones? Food hoarding has already started, I might do some of my own during the weekend. Mum decided to go to early Mass again on Sunday, mostly because she wants to get out of the house and to the fresh air at least once a week; which is practical, as early Mass starts just a little after the nearby Lidl store opens, so I can do some hoarding.

On a more delightful note, one of my choir buddies was over in the afternoon. We chatted and laughed for about 3 hours, it was great. She also brought a generous slice of punch cake made by her hubby (he's a baker, albeit currently an unemployed one).

And I also managed to seam one of the Doll House quiet book pages. Only one more left - then I can start on the heroic task of binding the book. *fingers crossed*

One of the few advantages of living in a big city is that there are more shops. We've got a Lidl, two Aldis, an Auchan supermarket and a grocery shop of a Hungarian chain within easy reach.

Stay safe. Covid-19 is hitting everyone hard and who knows where will end up. I'm no expert but keeping ourselves to ourselves and hoping that it runs its course seems to be the UK strategy. Will it work? I don't know but thankfully I'm not in the highest risk group even though I suffer with breathing problems. Blessings, Ju.

We are trying to keep to ourselves, most of the time; OTOH one needs fresh air at least once a week. Mum's really old (88), and I'm not the youngest, either, but we're reasonably healthy for our ages, so we hope for the best.

My deepest prayers. There's a sense of helplessness not knowing how Covid-19 travels doesn't help.

I'm washing my hands within an inch of their life and moisturising them to make sure I don't catch some other nasty.

The same here. I was very uncomfortable having to go to the bank and to the local clinic today. These are the few cases when I actually use disinfection gel.

I am beginning to think the UK might be right not to shut schools yet - because it seems likely that the answer to who will look after the children is their grandparents in many cases - who are at higher risk than the children...

And most children will not be happy if they are cooped up with grandparents 24/7, not leaving the house or having contact with their parents (who are still meeting a lot of people a couple of time each day) because that would increase the risk for the grandparents.

I hope you'll be able to lay in some non-perishables to get you through, if needed. We bought some supplies, just enough, we figured, to lay away for use only if we are stuck in the house.
So far, the virus is not in our city, but it's hard to imagine that it will bypass us. I am trying not to feel anxious about it, but I am.

Your quiet book is nearly done! I love that project. I don't know what binding it will involve, but I'm sure it's going to be hard to get those pages put together!

It is. I've already done it once and swore I wouldn't do it again, ever, but other methods didn't seem possible at the moment, so like it or not, I'll have to do it.

I'm trying not to live in fear, too, but it's not easy. Still, Mum decided to go to church tomorrow (unless she changes her mind in the last moment), wearing gloves, as early Mass isn't particularly crowded as a rule. Until other people get the same splendid idea. I'll do some shopping in the meantime, hoping that right after the supermarket opens I'll get such exotic items as bread, yogurt and toilet paper. I've got a decent storage of flour, sugar, cooking oil, margarine and pasta - not overly so, as we simply don't have the storage space - but there are items you just can't hoard for long.

None that I know of in our area, but a few schools and nursing homes (the latter a huge worry) in the capital cities have been hit, and universities which take in a lot of international students.

On the other hand, our Home Minister (a potato-faced idiot) has now been tested positive. The country is pretty well united in their lack of sympathy.

The real problem is that most likely a lot of positive yet symptom-free people are running around that we don't even know of. In a huge city like Budapest you can't really isolate yourself, even if you wanted.

It was a welcome afternoon of normalcy in the recent crazed times.

Luck with binding the quiet book. Unfortunately, we've had the first Covid-19 case in our parish, 196 cases and 4 deaths in our state. The universities and all schools, churches, are closed. Events of over 50 people are banned, restaurants can serve take-out only, government workers and others who can are working from home. Only patients with emergencies are advised to visit hospitals or health care units. Basically, our state is on shutdown. Oh, and hoarding has already begun. Shelves in stores are empty of bleach, toilet paper, any type of disinfectant, plus meat and perishables. I had stocked up on a few items, but did not buy in bulk like so many are apparently doing. I'm in the high risk category for the virus, so have been advised to stay at home. My son is working at home now, but my husband is one of the state government workers who still has to go into the office. Luckily, it is almost deserted. I think our leaders did too little, too late, but not much we can do about it. I read today that the US has only tested (since the first outbreak of the virus in our country) the amount of people S. Korea tests in two days. That is how slow our system is, not too mention, lack of test kits. It's scary when I think about it I try not to :0(
