We had Baby Emma over in our place, with Mum, Grandma and Big Brother. Her Grandma called yesterday evening, saying that at the moment everyone is in good health (something that hasn't happened since early December), and they'd like to use the rare occasion and come over. They said not to make any fuss, since it is such a short notice, but of course I don't welcome guests with empty hands. Errr... with an empty table, that is.

Here is what I baked this morning in a great hurry - Marmorguglhupf, cumin seed cookies and upside down financiers (upside down because they stuck to the dratted baking tin and I couldn't dig them out without ruining their bottoms):

They were still a great success, and we had a lovely time. Theo (Baby Emma's big brother) finally got his quiet book (the maritime one I made him for Christmas), we had lots of fun, looked at lots of baby pictures (and at the real baby that it, hard to imagine, 8 months old already), and we even called H's (Grandma's) sister in Germany via Viber. An international, long-distance family meeting if there ever was one.

Good to hear you had a nice afternoon.
And even managed to bake something on short notice!

It was a hectic affair to be sure, but well worth the effort. We've only seen Baby Emma once before, when she was just a couple of weeks old, so we were both very happy to have them over.

That looks like an excellent spread! And how nice to have such a successful family get-together. I imagine Theo's parents appreciated the quiet book as much as he did :)

I think the adults appreciated it a great deal more, since they had a fairly good idea how much detailed labour is in it. But Theo had fun with it nonetheless and 'saved' it from Baby Emma's grubby little hands. It's hard to have a baby sister that's cute like a button and has everyone fawning over her when one is not even five years old. *g*

Aww, sounds like a wonderful visit! So glad Theo got his book. Both he and baby Emma sound adorable. Your table of goodies looks delicious. Always so nice when family and friends get together.

It really is. Our only regret is that we get the chance to see them so rarely. They live in a village near the capital that can't be easily reached, unless you have a car. Which we haven't.
