So, it's barely 11 pm and we are already at home. The ball was a great success, with a lovely programme; aside from us, there was a former pupil of our school, now a professional ballet dancer with his partner (and girlfriend), a small band, the leader of which also teaches music theory in our school, an opera singer performing a small collection of Russian pieces, and our school psychologist read two short stories from Tolstoy.

Our performance went very well, we got lots of compliments from colleagues and parents alike. *is proud*

Mum had a grand old time. Lots of people knew about her birthday and came to congratulate her, she chatted with various colleagues and clearly enjoyed herself. She even dared to have a glass of champagne, which she rarely does outside the house. Afterwards, a colleague gave us a lift home, so it was all very pleasant and comfortable for her.

The Russian dolls were also a great success, the recipients were all smitten with them and complimented me on them.

Current egg count: 30/40. Go me!

Sounds wonderful. Glad you had a nice time. The Russian theme sounds like a great success. What is the general feeling towards Russia? Is there lingering bitterness towards the U.S.S.R. and their memory? I do hope this isn’t a wildly inappropriate question. If it is, my heartfelt apologies.

No problem at all. There are some narrow-minded fools who still can't let go of the past, but generally people are learning to make the difference between a deeply spiritual people and their rich culture and any given regime. Not as quickly as it would be desirable, but we are getting there. Or so I hope.

So glad it was a success. Sounds like both you and your Mum really had a great time. From what you have described of the program, i imagine it all as quite wonderful performances. Hope there is possibility of a video.

There is a video indeed, but if it's up to me, no-one will ever see it. The performance was great, but it has been filmed from such an unflattering angle that I look on it as if I'd gained five stones since the last practice, a few days previously. I was so upset when I saw it that I almost cried. All evening people were complimenting me on how well my new diet was working and how I've lost weight and stuff, and then comes the video and I look on it like a prime patient of Dr. Nowzaradan. *hides in a corner*

I swear the camera can add 4.5 kg, must be something to do with the lens and lighting --- fish-eye, perhaps? Portraits taken with my cell phone camera make my head look like a beach ball, and I have a very narrow face. I can understand your feelings, even slim models sometimes look bloated on television, and that is with all the tricks of the studio on their side.

Congrats on your 'real' weight loss! That's what counts, anyway. I've been meaning to try the fasting diet, as I am sure most of my excess weight is due to late night snacking and not enough sleep. I was actually making good progress re: weight loss 3 months ago with exercising, but then I broke bones in my foot, became sedentary, and gained most of what I had lost back :0( Now that the bones have healed and I can place weight on the foot again, I am halfway to where I was before the injury - sigh. It's not like I am starting from zero again, but still a regression. Hearing that the fasting diet WORKS gives me motivation to not open the refrigerator after dark.

Forget about the video, your friends' comments portray the truth, and all the folks that were there saw the real you. I'll wait and watch the next one when the camera shows you at your best.

If you are really that interested, I'm willing to forward the video to you - but only privately. It's not something I'd put up for public consummation.

Can you PM me your e-mail address? I'm sure I ought to have it saved somewhere, but at the moment have no idea where.
