Just because you can *read* Russian...

... it doesn't mean you can learn song texts by heart. Especially if you don't really understand what you're singing about. Knowing the Hungarian text version by heart doesn't help, either. On the contrary...
So, we are having this Russian-themed charity ball on Saturday, and A, our choir director, came to the glorious idea that we ought to sing the Russian folk songs without sheet music. Well... we all know the melodies by now, of course, the older types (like me) since our childhood, but the Russian texts... it is really hard to remember them. I can mark a couple of words from each line, but never a full line. I've honestly tried. It just doesn't work. I think I'll hide a small piece of paper with the most problematic lyrics in my palm and bear the consequences. Looking into my palm is still better than not being able to sing the pieces at all. Even though I'm in the first row and it will be a tiny bit visible what I'm doing. *sigh*
In other news, I did some work (make it a lot of work) on the doll house bathroom today. I had to rework the design because it only shows that it won't work the way I imagined it should when I'm halfway there... Anyway, I found an alternate solution, but it took a lot of time and effort. Especially as I had my student this afternoon, too.
After the student was gone, I headed to the kitchen to bake the real, official, authentic Russian Creme Cake for Mum, who has her 88th birthday tomorrow. I managed to hug the hot baking tin with a bare forearm in the process, which is not so very pleasant, so I've got a red and hurting arm now. But at least the cake is finished. Pictures tomorrow, on THE DAY.
Current egg count: 15/40. Go me!
